Default LV zetec stereo steering controls problem

G'day,
I have an LV zetec about 6 months old...the stereo controls on the steering wheel have started playing up - press volume up or down and it just keeps going all the way or press mode to switch stations and it does a band change instead.
Even though only pressing the buttons momentarily, it's treating it as if you are holding them down, but on all 3 buttons??
the other funny thing is that is only happens after you've been driving for a few minutes, turn the engine off and the controls work fine - this tells me it's not a mechanical fault with the buttons but probably electronic??
any ideas?

Check with ford and see if there's an upgrade to the firmware on the headunit. That could be causing the problem.
