Nice pics. I've been told it's bitterly cold in south east Aus right now. Not looking forward to returning from Hawaii on Tuesday. It's about 25 degrees here at 10pm, with a nice breeze from Waikiki Beach.

Hate to be a downer, this is the snow we got last year in Pittsburgh. My Focus is a whiter blob than normal
I imagine your mate loved the temps and the snow! Halfway to spring for you all, that means I can plan a potential trip for September or November! Last edited by ken1939; 09-05-2015 at 09:09 AM. |

Great timing....
Here I am sitting in a hostel room in Hobart... 2 nights ago I did one of the most nail-biting drives I have ever attempted. Got into Derwent Bridge pretty late, was raining but the snow on the road was light and doing 50ish kept the car driving straight. Didn't worry all that much, Tom Tom said we would arrive in 5 minutes so dropped the speed down even more. Checked in, and the wind and rain was like nothing I had ever experienced. Woke up to this: Bugger... we needed to get to Southport, 270km south. Ok.. apparently there was sun and a raise in temp on the way. Spent an hr at 'The Wall' (tourist attraction just down the road).... No change.... bugger.... hmmm do we stay put or try and head on? Chose to head on... Very VERY carefully..... The scenery was stunning, certainly not expecting this on our trip to Tassie. We caught up to two 4 wheel drives... how did I catch up?? There were behind a Corolla driver who thought it was smart to do all the snow ploughing.... Watching him zig-zag and swerve all over the road uphill... I just hung back and let them clear the track and I took most hills with minimal fuss. Our vehicle...... Hyundai i45 hire car. (Was that or a base Camry... no brainer really). It performed very well. This drive tested the ABS and traction control many times over lol. Avg speed was 35km/h till we hit clean tarmac. Along the way we passed a new beemer who was stuck at the bottom of a hill I had just went over, a Focus who lost it and crashed and a TOYOTA COASTER (22 seater bus) who came around a hair-pin bend at a 45 degree angle and missed us by a foot. They driver was frantically waving to us to get out of the way as soon as he saw us... seeing the side of the bus (as opposed to the rear) continuing up the hill taking up both lanes.. Couldn't believe the stupidity of the bus driver.... Got to Southport at 5.45pm after leaving Derwent Bridge at 11:30am to have a meal and drink at Australia's southernmost Pub. |

Yellow Festi - who did you hire the I45 through?
Not to take this thread OT but how do you rate the i45 in general? PM me if you want.

Law requires all non 4x4 cars to carry snow chains. Though over the last week at least 20 brain dead idiots have crashed their non snow chain fitted FWD cars thinking they can drive through snow :-S makes me wonder Local tow truck driver is loving it lol |

I'm going to Tassie for 4 days in August.
I have NEVER seen or been in real snow at all - only the odd bit of artificial stuff. Kind of looking forward to it!

Heading to Queenstown the first week of August, can anyone give me a report for the snow fields around there atm? First time in NZ for me, which parks do people prefer (some of us ski and some of us board)? What is it like to travel to and from them on a daily basis?
Cheers in advance Bud Bud |
