The NC has developed a constant ticking sound. I pulled the rocker cover off and it is coming from the front of the motor. I checked the lifters and they are not spongy so I dont think they are causing the sound. The number two inlet rocker arm has a bit of sideways slop in it. (More than the others) so could this be causing the ticking?
Cheers. |

I also have a ticking coming from the engine when revving at about 2000 and it aint the lifters or injectors.....thought i could possibly be a manifold leak, or could it be something else

Is it possible that number 2 is catching aginst something due to excessive lateral movement (broken or damaged spacing washer)or...damaged roller or....broken timing chain guide catching against chain etc??

I have had this happen in a number of cars that iv'e had,
You will need 5 ltrs of diesel New oil filter Replacement oil Drain the existing oil out of the motor Leave the old oil fiter on Pour the diesel into the motor start the car and idle for a couple minutes and go for a shord drive not reving hard Drain the diesel and remove old oil filter 1/2 fill new filter with new oil and skrew on Replace motor oil The diesel has oil in its mixture to protect it enough to loosen any shyte in the whole motor, as well as the hydraulic tappets which are usally the culprit happy motoring :1syellow1

a timing guide probably won't sound like a ticking though.
if its a consistant tick then its gotta be something cylinder related. i know my exhaust leak deffinately sounded like a tick, just had to tighten all the extractor bolts up again.

if rockers have side way slop in them then that will most definatly make a loud ticking noise in it, ive replaced a few rocker gear for the same sideway slop in them making a ticking noise

Timing guides DO give off a ticking sound and if they are left long enough the chain will pick up the guide and spit it out the side of the timing case. Replacement of the guides (usually) requires dropping the sump. If you can fix it yourself its a bit easy and a bit cheap! That is providing that THAT is the problem!

Does anyone get the ticking noise when you first start the car up, especially when cold? i can always hear it in the morning when still cold backing down the driveway, and because its a tight area it sounds louder that what it really is. Im using Valvoline Enigine Armour, 15 -40. The car still hasn't ticked over 130,000km. Could I be having the same problem?
