Default Moree Floods 2011

A few pics for everyone of the floods currently happening in Moree in the North-West of New South Wales.

Over the past 2 weeks we've have a few storms and a little bit of rain, how ever as of Tuesday this past week, we've had rain non stop till around 10am Saturday morning with around 200mm falling around Moree and its surrounds. Currently (14:50 on 27/11/2011) Moree is completely isolated form the rest of the state and the township is cut in two.

We have the peak running through town at the moment, 10.11m and steady, however there appear to be storms over the Warialda/Bingara area which feed into the river here in town.

The 4th, 5th and 6th pics are of my work.... looks like i will get wet feet in the morning

Mate I'm in Narrabri - the water caught a few people unawares. Nothing like Moree, but we've had 165mm so far, and a few roads and bridges are submerged entirely.

Hope everyone is ok...although I did see the news about the young boy

Well its happening again. Second coming, we have the Gwydir River at not quite 2011 levels, its currently 7.27m and rising and in November last year it hit 7.45m. The Mehi River in town is at 5.15m and rising.

We've currently had nearly 8in(IIRC) of rain in a little over 36hours, and has been raining on and off all day since Friday.

You know you're in for it when Barraba goes under; that means the Upper Horton has come down.
The biggest floods in Moree, in my experience always occur when the Horton & Mosquito Creek come down.
We were on the river at Biniguy and had rainfall and flood records going back to 1891, these records show the Horton was always the big flood.

The Horton and Upper Horton have been going up and down a little all day. We've had reports of over 200mm of rain in the Upper Horton area alone. Uncomfirmed local rumors that the Tycannah Crk and Hall's Crk have broken banks and are running overland towards the Mehi, after the Chinock gauge. Mosquito Crk was running a banker last time i heard anything about that.

The Moree side approach to the Gwydir River bridge at Gravesend has been all but washed away.

edit: That looks like the Warialda/Inverell side of the Gwydir River bridge

Hope you come out of it OK NC1183. That plains country floods pretty quick with the slow run-off. By contrast we had 26 inches/650 mm (no typo) last week on Mt Tamborine with no damage at all, but it took out a major river crossing down below near Oxenford.

I will come out of it ok. I'm on the southern side of town which is higher then the northern and i'm not caught between two rivers, but i have family and a lot of friends on the northern side of town, one who's place will definitely get water inside.

We've had nearly the same about of rain since Oct last year, half of which seems to have falling in the last fortnight.
