thread about no rego stickers in NSW from 2013?

NSW rego stickers to be taken off the road

The New South Wales Government has announced it is abolishing car registration stickers.

The stickers, which have been a part of life for NSW motorists for 80 years, will no longer need to be replaced from early next year.

Western Australia and South Australia have already done away with the stickers.

Roads Minister Duncan Gay says new technology means they are no longer needed.

"We have numberplate recognition in a large number of police cars. There will be a website," he said.

"It's a sensible step. It's one we've worked through quite carefully."

Businesses are already celebrating the announcement.

Arnold Cluck from Bayswater Car Rental says no stickers will mean less work.

"We've got about 1,200 cars here, so every month we've got 100 labels. We've got to put them on, put them off," he said.

The Government expects to save around 10 cents in printing on every registration notice issued.

They have not had rego stickers in SA for the past 6 months or so.


You have to be really aware of when your rego is out with all the new cameras they have. Id rather pay a few dollars extra to have one.

WA already has this too... But now I hear there is a move to bring them back!

no rego stickers since end of june 2011.

It's a nice prompt to have sitting there...I only just realised yesterday that both our G6E and the Celica are due in the 8th month...time to start saving for two rego payments...

eh Cops are fairly relaxed about it. I went through a whole defect process including goin over the pits at the rta in Canberra with out a sticker on the car, and that was 18 months ago

Which is about when i asked the RTA if they were going to follow SA's lead.

No you don't. TransportSA still send out reminders a month before your rego is due. Same as they always have.
