In two weeks i will be off to my first local drag meet, ive only just got my P's so i havent had the chance or oppurtunity to have a go down the 1/4, but our local area is just starting a drag club and soon we will be holding a 1/8th mile day to raise funds for a 1/4 track. Anyway i want to know what is a good time and what should i expect... and also what is a good MPH???
I got a ED XR6 5spd, extractors, 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust and a few other small things, all i wanna do is line up against a bloody commo... theres to many around this area! lol, thanks in advance!

You should be able to get at least a 10 sec 1/8 in your car mate.
1/8 mile times are generally about 2/3 the 1/4 mile time. If you can crack a 9 your a Legend. :P

I'm not really sure what would be considered quick, but i know Karl has had a few runs down the 1/8th mile so he'd have some times u could compare too.
also check the 0 - 100km/h thread as the calculations are based on 1/8th mile times/speeds.

seeing as ur car *should* run a low 15ish time down the full 1/4.
a very high 9 or a low 10 is what to expect. my 16.1 pass (auto) managed 10.4 and u should kill that.

Warracknabeal have drags? Haha, since when? Damn, i just moved (was in edenhope but now in ararat, haha, probably only Shannon will know where they are :P), but it would have been good fun to watch it had i known they were on. How often are they?
The only other drags in the area i think are the Casterton drags, but i've never been to those either. I don't know if they're still running, but they're meant to be pretty good. Last edited by oneredED; 01-02-2005 at 04:17 PM. |

Yeah, they definately need a quartermile around the area, so many P-platers and no where to go fast (well, plenty of good places but nowhere legally). What date is this thing on? I'll cruise over for a look if i can!

I run 9.82 down the 1/8th in my EL futura. The slips say about 70mph, which i beg to differ, as in eliminations i'm backing off before the line, and I can do a 10.1 pass at 70mph.
Oh.. even with a drag strip, most P platers (expecially commodore bogans) won't put there car on the strip, but will gladly do stupid shit around town.. thats why I know so many of them who are on a 6 month get fit routine..

All I did was go down to repco and get the biggest hose clamp I could. Slide it over the filter, and tighten. Then bend the end piece up, so it catches on the back of my air con, it can't unscrew now

What's all this talk of oil filter clamps and tailshaft loops? That's strict. When I went to Heathcote the other week I popped the bonnet. The marshall had a look and asked "does it leak any oil?" to which I replied "nup" and he said "no probs" and away I went.

Different tracks have different rules.
I put a tailshaft loop in because i was doing some track days, and the ocasional Drag meet. Just as piece of mind.
