Hey guys,
At the moment my cars all wired up with 1992 non smartlock EBII wiring, we are going to strip a EBII 1993 smartlock car of its wiring (engine bay and dash) wiring so i can have smartlock in my car, i have one question though, we will be taking EVERYTHING of the wiring, and replacing my wiring, so i was wondering what has to be done to START the car once ive replaced all the wiring to smartlock, as wont smartlock be a B!@$# when i first try to start it? and be embolized or something?? and also, can i use for the time being a EA 3.9L MPFI ManuaL ECU (obviously isnt a smartlock ECU) with the smartlock wiring till i get a XR6 ECU? Any comments would be appriciated thanks - Grechie

If you use the ignition switch from the car that you get the module from it should start straight away. Your car wont have a smartlock ignition switch in it. You can also swap the barrels over so you can use the orginal key as well. good luck

thanks NZ, so if i use the same ignition barrel it should start straight away, i dont really care bout the central locking and all, i just want it to have smartlock so in future i can get a XR6 manual ECU for it,
also i was wondering if the EA Manual ecu would work if i got the smartlock wiring?, i no smartlock talks to the ecu to see if its smartlock then starts, but if its smartlock wiring to non smartlock ecu would it matter?

coz ghia has every possible wire.
better to have more wires than less. means if u ever want to add on an extra feature the wires are already there.

Nick your right on the money.
if your going to rewire the whole car to suit smartlock (well basicly the dash loom :P), you might aswell go Ghia and get Trip computer Climate control Cruise control (just need the bits for it ;)) and Ghia interior lighting options allready for you. Just saves adding the wiring later on and having some spag' of wires. I was under the impression that you couldnt use a EA ECU in a EB2/ED/EF/EL wiring setup. But you learn something every day ;)

an ea ecu will run fine with smartlock. The other thing you could do is extract the smartlock wiring from a dash loom and overlay it to the loom you already have. thats what i did on my car when i added it. if you want the loom i can easily rip it off as all my old looms are sitting in the shed. Either way the dash has to come out

Because its just your car mick!
I used an eb2 non smartlock auto (!) ecu in my ea manual for ages. went fine till i hooked up the isc then the Variable Idle™ gave me the ИИИИs. |

NZ, hanks i would be interested , but im after all the wiring even underbonnet as my loom atm has got a bypass wire going from someonewere in the loom to the TFI to give it power (bodgy i know) but thats the only way we could start my car wen we did this becuase there was a after market alarm in there and the wire was cut, n now i just want a whole new wiring loom with no alarm/embolizer wires so nothign looks body
