Default Deciding between cars: Ute or Fairmont

Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying a "new" car (as soon as I sell my RX7 - $3000 anyone?!) and have decided between the 1997 XH ute (would prefer XR6) or a EF/EL Fairmont.

Now, is it reasonable with a budget of $9000 (assuming everything goes right) to be able to afford either? I've looked at prices of Fairmonts and i'm inside the budget by a bit but with XH ute's (especially XR6) there only seems to be one or two that i've seen for under budget.

Second question, which would be the better buy? I know the ford engines are built like rocks... but I honestly can't decide which one to go with. I want a cruising car, but are the fairmont options really that great? I notice they have a lot of cool stuff but is it worth going for the fairmont because of the options? On the other hand, the ute I could have a lot of fun because of the back tub and I honestly love utes... although I already have a 2003 Ford Courier for work haha. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Within that budget I would also like to add wheels, stereo, exhaust (obviously I wouldn't be able to do that all at once... maybe one or two of those things).

Cheers guys. All help appreciated.

I don't need a ute, as I have my Ford Courier for anything I want to carry, but I love the style of the XH utes (especially XR6).

But fairmont would be excellent for cruising and could see it doing up really well.

RX7 is non turbo. Series 3 12a

ReVd_uP: Yeh, I think i'll take the ute option just because of the way they look... although might buy the stocker ute, crack the xr front on, etc.
