Yes because there is zero tolerance with the calibration of the speedo, the GPS your checking and the police radar detector.

The Pajero I used to have was on average 8km/h slower than the indicated speed pending tyre inflation so I used to always sit on 5km/h over the indicated limit to keep up with traffic.

Fairly certain the wife's Lancer is about 2-3km/h out which I can live with.

Strange that a Mercedes with some AMG options is 100 at 100.

On the AMG Lounge (Forum) the owners of genuine AMG’s report their car’s actual speed is 97 when reading 100.

I just see on MBWorld where they have shown a speed delimited C63 with a speedo reading 312km/h and the GPS reading 302km/h.

Who here has a GPS and a Bluetooth OBDII module?

Check the speedo needle vs OBDII speed reading vs GPS.

I reckon the OBD readout will be closer to the GPS than the needle, within 1kmh or so.

According to the GPS i my car my G6E is 3k out. That could be from having the xr6 tyres on the back, not sure how much the slight size difference makes.

According to a truckie I know the speed limited trucks are bang on 100, so if I judge it off that, my speedo is about 50k off.

When in sports mode my Merc goes like a scalded cat from a standing start in first gear, no second gear start needed.

It reverts to second gear take offs only when in placed in comfort mode.

Yes that's correct and it was measured by the same accurate GPS based equipment the Magazines use. It performs well under widely varied weather conditions (including very hot temperatures and high altitude) as can be seen from the 3 runs below.
All runs at over 650 metres altitude (that typically slows acceleration by about 3% to 4%) on a surface with very good, but not special grip (less than a well prepared Drag Strip).

Run 1) Conditions:- 90 kg driver with a fair weight at the back of the car. Ie full sized spare plus jack, tools etc and almost a full tank. Car total weight approx 10 kg's above what it would be with just a full fuel load. 2200 RPM stall, temperature cool at 14 degrees.

Run 2) The car was about 10 kg's heavier than on run 1. Stall up again over 2000 RPM and temperature was 25 degrees.

Run 3) Practically the same 10 kg heavier load as RUN 2, but the big difference was in the temperature.

It was a sweltering 39 degrees and stall up revs were lower at about 1800 RPM. For that reason I'm also listing 20 to 100 km/h times because the 0-20 time of this run isn't comparable to the others, due to the lower stall revs. The car launches harder just above 2000 revs.

RUN 1..............................RUN 2.............................RUN 3
Temp...14 degrees ............Temp...25 degrees.............Temp...39 degrees

0-20.....0.64 sec.................0-20.....0.63 sec...............0.83 sec
0-40.....1.41......................0-40.....1.45.....................1.67
0-60.....2.24 @ 20.03 M.......0-60.....2.27 @ 20.34 M......2.52 @ 21.21 M

0-80.....3.38......................0-80.....3.41.....................3.72
0-100k..4.56 @ 71.67 M.......0-100...4.64 @ 73.37 M......4.95 @ 75.55 Metres

20-100 Km/h 3.92 sec.........20-100 4.01 sec.................20-100 4.12 sec

So the car was only 4.85 % faster with a 25 degree temperature advantage in this case, I was very happy with that. Fast at high altitude and in high temperature situations.

Certainly grip can be a real issue with a lightly loaded car on low grip worn surfaces that can be found at intersections. That's where the second gear launch can be useful, the car accelerates quickly over a wide speed range without having a particularly high (brief) acceleration rate that's likely to cause traction loss.

I'm not surprised that you're surprised by my numbers, but people generally think of FG Turbo's as having 270 kW/533 Nm, whereas in everyday real world situations far more power/torque is available (there is the overboost and 98 fuel gives my car 10% better pace than the 91 that they can run on).

Mines no freak, others on the NET (including the XR6TURBO.COM forum) have performed like mine, I just happen to have the accurate GPS based timing gear (and I'm nerdy enough) to measure the performance.
I haven't seen a time that seems fast from an FGX yet, I'm wondering if they have the overboost feature in their tune.

Not sure what model of MERC that you've got. but I'm suspecting it might have a better rear wheel tyre combination than my standard tyres and wheels.

In a canbus system the instrument cluster and the OBD data will be identical.

Yes, but the conversion of digital data to an analogue needle loses some accuracy.

I can bring up a digital readout of my speedo in the EL, and it varies in its relativity to the needle at different speeds.

EL never ran canbus, as it was electrically an evolved EA. BA/Territory were the first to use canbus.

Obviously, but the digital to analogue conversion is still the same. Just a different way to access the data.
