Im putting my ford in for a service and brake and driveline checkup.
Im trying to use the same oils every time i do oil grease changes etc. In the industrial engineering environment in which i work im used to requesting a written record of absolutely everything that has been done on machines i design. so what sort of log book info should i expect from my mechanic? Is asking the just oil grade and brand too little, and is asking what brand and specification of bearings too much? what sort of info is good to ask a mechanic without being a pain in the ИИИИ? cheers

mate it's your car, you're entitled to as much information on it as you want...
Last time I went to a mechanic (god knows how long ago, since I have seen the light) I requested receipts for everything they replaced, and requested to inspect the old parts that were removed. In this case, they had charged me for a fuel filter and it still had the original one in there, they said that they must have "forgotten" to replace it. So yeah, go nuts!

Any decent workshop will give you a complete printed invoice listing all parts they have used in the servicing of your vehicle.
Legit workshops will have no problem showing you your old parts if you ask them, but maybe tell them you want your old parts back when you drop the car off, so they don't have to fish around in the bin when you come in later. They should also tell you what lubricants they use and will probably even give/sell you some for future top ups. They may get funny if you start asking questions on how things are done, because they'll assume you will do it yourself later on.
