when i dialed mine in, the dude told me to take it for a driver for 2 hours, but it had to be under 2000rmps, so means no flogging it, by the time 1 hours gone u can start to feel it, so dosent matter if u go over now and then but really consntrate on keeping it under ;)

you're refering to 'running it in' jo..
dialing it in involves ensuring the cam has the correct amount of lift at the right piston positioning. to dial in a cam, you need a dial indicator. the vernier gear is adjusted to ensure that the cam has the correct amount of lift @ TDC.

That's not dialing it in, thats not even running it in.
Dialing it in, is when the cam is set to the grinders specifications or even advancing or retarding it to the tuners requirements, not just putting it dot to dot according to the manufacturers specs. This allows for any inaccuracies in the manufacture of timing gears etc. To dial it in would require cam specs showing lift @ .050" (for example), you'll need a degree wheel and a dial indicator to measure the .050"

dial in specs are usually lift @ TDC.
so you only need a dial indicator and to ensure the engine it as TDC.
