Default 120 hours on learners?

Quick question, do you have to show your 120 hours expiriance in your log book when you go for your P's? Because I've been driving for a few months and havn't logged anything so I hope not :(

OMG, i never new its 120 hours on ur L's. Was 60 hours before (but im in Syd). Anyways, Yes the road authorities will have alook at the book just to see if the total hours are 120 or above. they wont go threw it with a fine comb. But ur driving on the test will definitley represent what you have learnt on ur L's.

Im pretty sure you have to have all hours logged. Whats the point of a logbook if you dont have to show how many hours you have driven. Any goose could then go for their P's without having a minutes worth of learning experience.

I thought the log book was to help keep track of your hours didn't you you HAD to do it, and yes any goose could go for there P's with only minutes of expericance but you gotta be a quick learner to pass your P's with only minutes of driving expiriance.

My God bloke did you not take any notice of what they told you at the RTA when you went for your L's? Of course you do. What would be the purpose of giving you the book? And in NSW its 50 hours not 60,page 3 of drivers log book.

Yes you HAVE to put down your hours. As said they will go through and add the hours up. Sometimes they may check into it if there is something suss.
I mean really how hard can it be to write down where/how long/how far you have driven when on your l's each lesson.
And in NSW its 50 hrs.(minimum)

Umm XDaaron is in Melbourne, im pretty sure you don't have to log your hours yet.

It is recommended that while you are on your learner permit you complete at least 120 hours of driving in all conditions to prepare you for your test and to be a safer driver on our roads.

I'm from Geelong, got my P's last tuesday and i didnt have to show VicRoads anything, like the site says it is recommended but not compulsory yet in Vic.
(btw i did have plenty of experience anyway so showing a logbook would not have made a difference)

Yeah it means you should complete that many hours, it doesnt say "it is not compulsary to log these hours that have been completed" (or anything along those lines)

No, in Victoria you dont have to, all i got was a dodgey thing that u scratch the L's off, lol, anyway i drive a lot to like ballarat and bendigo etc every few weeks, and other driving, and do keep count, its amazing how little experience most get, im 17 n a half n only have about 40hrs.

work it out, L's at 16, 2 years until P's, 120hrs, 60 each year, divide by 52 weeks, dunno roughly over an hour a week, i dont think many would actually do that on there Learners. _2:

If you're so concerned, why dont you just ring VicRoads instead of posting a thread?

In NSW you will need to enter Odometer details for each trip, soon.

100 hours here, my view is it should be 120.

As previously said you don't have to do it here in Victoria. I just pulled out the book, and including instructor lessons it only took me 30hours to have it fine tuned.

But don't go by the 120 hours anyway. I know it's a guide and all, but everyone is different and others pick things up quicker than others. One of my mates took him close to 300hours before he actually got his p's. Take your time and don't rush after your p's. I know too many people who did it, and one of them stacked it on the way to schoolies on the great ocean road. Probably the best looking vn calais i seen in my life. They are lucky they even survived.

120 hours, I did alot more than that just driving around. Mostly on very busy main roads. Not busy by city standards. Not bumper to bumper but 110kph trucks and cars and all sorts. One of the main roads out of perth (Toodyay road for fellow perth blokes).

For our log book you had to do 25 hours, i think its been bumped up now or is going to be. 50 hours is a fairly long time to do. It takes some people months to do 25! I did it in like 12 days but hey, im magic.

I think more hours is a good idea though. More time on the road means more experience and theoretically you should become a better driver.

50 hours should not be hard to acheive within a year, nor should 60 hours.
L plaers should be driving every opportunity they have, to school, from school, so the supermarket or local shops, to mates places, wherever you can get in a drive, do it.

You should be able to get atleast 1 hour of driving in per week with ease.

IMO 120 hours should be standard nation wide, it is a very manageable target. I love driving and cannot wait until i get my probationary liscence, i have done atleast 100 hours so far with 6 months left and still feel there are things i need to improve on.

my 2 cents anyway

My appologies for the mistake. I wish it was 120 hrs here in NSW. As it is now the kids do lots to start with then they think they know it all and do nothing for a few months and then its a panic to get it done by the time to get P's. 120 would mean kids would have to be more persistant.

I only did 10 hours of driving on my Ls before doing my Ps test and passing first go (this was in 98)

In retrospect I probably shouldnt have been given my licence.

I did about 250 hours before going for my P's. Had to wait until I was 17 to go for them so I kept driving, kept logging the hours. 1.5 hours round trip for rowind do that 8 or 9 times a week. 1.5 hours round trip from home to school and back. It adds up real quick.
