Default Mandarin Orange

Hey All,

Im curious to find out more about the color of my car. It is painted Mandarin, which seems to have a gold pearl finish. It looks fantastic in the sun, but in the shade looks dirty. The color as grown on me alot and seems to turn heads. Only i dont see to many other falcon on the road painted this color.

Was this a MKII color cause i know in MKI the color was called Blood Orange which was just a flat pastal orange.??

Who else has a BA falcon Painted this color, what do people think of it. Ill Include a pic of my car for you to see.....

Allen

Mandarin didn't have a gold pearl as far as I know, it was a metalic paint though.

Any more pics??

Manderin replaced Blod Orange prior to the launch of the BA11

A lot of pearl / large flake metallics look ordinary in poor light, they can only cast their magic when the light falls their way.

It is not correct to call the Blood orange Flat as it is a gloss finish but does not have any metallic or pearl (sparkle in the colour)

On a side note Ford generally update their colours prior to the launch of an update to give the last of the model a lift and to do final market acceptance tests prior the the add campaings of the newer model/upgrade.

This also helps to retain values in these end of model cars as they look fresher.

In the PPG cobra formulation from memory there are three separate dry pearls, Gold, russet (red) and white . and of course a coarse metallic (9 or 10 tinters in all)

I think not gospel I can't be bothered firing up the formulation program ( on separate computer in car)

(Yeah, i did say that it "seems to have a gold pearl finish"

And also yes, Blood Orange was not a "flat" color in its true sense, i was just implying it to be a base pastel - not a metalic.)

**My car is one of the last of the MKI's, was built in Aug04. It was a ex-FoMoCo car & has factory illuminated window switches which were a MKII feature. What else did the MKII XR8 have over MKI??

To my knowledge this was standard on MKII.

Lol, my AUIII XR6 had them, so if a BA XR8 didn't, then there would be something wrong.

Blood Orange was (from what I was told by a Salesman) to replicate the Burned Orange colour that the XYGT had. Similar to De-Ja-Vu with Gold stripes and the XW GT.

BA Mark I XR8s had illuminated window switches, and the late ones came with 18 inch rims and Prestige sound stardard. The only difference between the Mark 1 and Mark 11 XR8 was the alloy pedals, Auto headlights, new cupholders and the rear arm rest.

Mmm Mandarin is a nice Colour especially in the sun, but it wasn't a worthy repalcement of Blood Orange.

XR6 only received the illumited windows switches from Series 2 on. Mine is series 2, it has them and its about time. There wasn't that much to rave on between the 2, gotta admit though the 6speed manual is awesome, never get to use 5th and 6th that much around town. Mine is Velocity and it is made up of half yellow pearl, just had a litre mixed.
