My 32 year old son did the City to Surf 12kay run this morning raising about $600 for people with disabilities, despite not feeling well and throwing up his breakfast.
Picked him up at the finish line.
Funny how they still do things that make you proud.

Cleaned and polished half a Westfield car park column off the nearside doors of my dearest’s car. They’re still bruised but the “You’re on Level 2” magenta paint is all buffed away.

I know where he gets it from, but my son thinks he can procrastinate better then me. He has a ways to go to beat me in the art of making excuses as to why not to do things.
Anyhows we spent the day together. Even though i said he should put together his tank stand 1st then come chill.
So after a lot of 'this brand of fish needs this many litres of water, so i can get this many' talk. I said wont you need another powerboard? He still has his 28L tank which has a filter, heater and light. He says yes, and also nana (my ex wifes mum, lovely person, love her to bits) wanted a powerboard with a switch. He said I'd get paid back as all his bank went into the 1200 long, 450 wide, 650 tall fish tank. No, not happening. Nana got her powerboard with switches and my kid also got one. Nana is a pensioner so i don't mind helping her out, and the powerboard for my kid, whilst he did save hard for half his tank (my birthday present to him was a tad bit over a pineapple in a birthday card so he could get his big tank) it was just like the batteries for a gift to a child. You dont gift a child something without batteries.
Anyhows, i used my secret weapon to crack the prince of procrastination into gear. I had to go way back to my younger years.
Yep, simple peer pressure from me got him to start assembling the tank stand. Im a heaps good dad....

You forgot Geelong in 2023

My defence is that irrespective of how you feel about any club, the fact they won a premiership is their ultimate comeback to whatever jibes you can offer

The only clubs who cannot offer any comeback to anything are Fremantle and St Kilda. St Kilda's only premiership cup is so old, it has to be carbon-dated to qualify its authenticity.

I've got parents in their late 70s/early 80s, so I am always grateful that they're healthy, happy (despite the fact they're married), and without medical complication.

I am aware that none of that can be taken for granted. The good times won't roll on forever.

It's a thing I have to actively remind myself, among the frustration of the BS of daily life.

Here here buddy all power to your parents fortunate ones compared to so many others.
Yep cherish it for I always do with mine as well having them around much longer than many not so lucky.
Mum 94 Dad 91 - cradle snatcher she was back in those days haha.
Living in their apartment still getting harder but I remind them better than in aged care or hospital or 6’ under.
I’m blessed but it is a struggle watching the decline.

Decline is just part of the journey. It has to come at some point, but at least at the end, you can celebrate a long, well-lived life.

I've had friends pass back in my 20s for different reasons and irrespective of the circumstances, you still feel they were cheated.

Then you hear of kids in hospital who are terminally ill...

It's all perspective. It's why you shouldn't get angry because you had to wait an extra minute for your coffee...

my dad died at 99.5 years. He was the youngest and the earliest in his family. All between 99.5 and 102.25 Dad was fit n healthy, missed the last step off the retirement village bus and gone 24 hours later.

Tell my kids they have me around for a long time yet, all I get is groans from them and cheers from the grandies.
Did my 75 medical last week, doc rings me up and says, why dont you just take a long holiday, your an embarrestment to old age.

So yesterday, it was my kids birthday. My ex wife texts me in an unusual manner. As in not being a psycho hose beast as per her usual temprement. She says she can't beleive he is 15. My response was, he thinks he is getting old, how do we feel?. That surprisingly went down well.
My young bloke is a fine young gentleman. I blame the hormones in the chickens as to why he is a bit taller then me already and im not too short. Im 6"2'.
