This topic has come up again. My wife would like 7 seats and id like to give her and kids more comfort. I really cant justify spending but im hoping an upgrade will also be an investment. Keeping in mind i live regionally, her car needs to be an allrounder with offraod capabiltiy, towing a caravan, grocery and kid transporter. Looking at options a landcruiser is definitely ouside our budget (approx 100k for a 5-10yo car with 100Km), isuzu which is plagued with steering issues and underpowered, pajero seems underpowered, Jeep seems night hawk seems like a good option but dont see many around and limited reviews, range rover i imagine replacement parts an servicing expensive, which leads me to v6 everest.

MY23.5 sport are same price point as MY22 platinum and im after other peoples thoughts on these options, or others i may not have considered.

New Pajero Sport is incoming (more in line with new Triton) and it will have better power which are nearly in line with Biturbo Everest which would be better than current Paj Sport. Ive driven the new Triton and the Bi-Turbo 2.4 is a much nice motor and feels alot quicker than the old one. As for Everest, I have an MY24 Platinum with 20k km on it and its been great, the wife loves it and it does what you need (tows my boat with ease, great on the beach and has even towed my Redline to a workshop when I was silly and broke it). Sport V Everest comes down to if you want a newer car and/or need the extra equipment. For us we wanted the Pano Sunroof and I wanted the full width digital dials but each to there own... WL Grand Cherokee (Current model) is a good looking thing, and brand new they are CHEAP currently because they aren't selling any but Id be concerned with them doing a Holden and shutting up shop and leaving the Oz market. Plus parts prices are high and not always readily available.

Depending on budget you could look at new Prado, but I cant get past them keeping that crap engine and making it heavier so slower than old one...

I have no idea on budget, as we'll need some financing regardless. Looking around 60-70k range for a 2020 and newer vehicle. Any car will be an upgrade for my wife who wants some comfort, space, seats and child friendly where as im thinking is functionailty. With the options on the market I just considered the everest v6 the better for our needs. Ive heard good an bad things about the bi-turbo, see a lot of vans being pulled by them, but mates saying nothing but the v6. I agree, Prado would be an option but seems gutless and good for town and travel. Havent looked at the fortuner

Be very interested to hear your opinion of the Nighthawk if you get to test it. Is that the same as the Night Eagle?

I can see 2023 examples from 52K with 28,000km on the odo:

Edit: old mate reckons that one was a turbo diesel, so maybe he's got the wrong pictures and it's the previous model? Anyway, here the Loooong version at 54K with 44K on the clock.

Even a V6 Everest sport it at least 82-85k new. They do have the balls to haul a decent sized van, but the bi-turbo isn't bad if your van isn't crazy heavy. Understandable about the concerns though.

The difference between the bi-turbo and V6 is the level of confidence when towing. The bi turbo does the job but the V6 does it more convincingly. Also depends on how often you tow too. Lots of factor play on your mind about it.

Sorry, i did mean eagle. Specs lists the right petroleum type. Jeep wasnt really a consideration until i went in a mates previous gen couple of weeks ago and liked the space and interior. Felt solid. But i dont see any locally on the sand dunes, a few pulling vans.

That white one is nice. If i were to look at the night eagle thats what i pictured. I like the pricing and seemingly simple but classy cabin.

DK quarries are good, 2 options read the weight or printed out copy.

I owned a 2015 WK2 Grand Cherokee with the V6 Diesel for years your bang on regarding the Confidence in towing... The GC always felt like it was no fuss at all towing my boat and even a loaded car trailer on a few occasions. No struggle at all. Couple that with great performance unladen. I sold it because Jeep where horrible to deal with when we had our first (and only) warranty issue. What they and the dealer did made me trade it almost immediately. It was that I missed, but now owning the Everest with the V6 it has that same feeling/confidence which is awesome and well worth the extra spend if you do any sort of towing.

This is a very good POV review of the new model in 2022 guide in the US:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM6IJlxxLKo

It is a bit of a rare thing which is due to the way they marketed it (big price hike at launch to go 'premium'). V6 Everest is certainly more popular and will have greater support in Oz.

We drove an early one of the last GC generation in North America, with the same Pentastar and I found it a great combo, easy light steering, motor and transmission worked really well to be effortless around town, enough grunt for going up mountainsides, highway overtaking - very much like our Aussie Fords. Indirect injection, too...
