Question for those with greasy fingers.
I’ve typically replaced these seals by removing the double bearing cap to extract the old seals, refitting the cap with no seals and gasket compound at its interface, then driving the seals in concentrically. The other day I saw in a video, a chap replacing seals slightly differently. He removed them the same way, but slid the new seals into position before refitting the double cap - then did it as one. Has anyone made a regular practice of doing them in such a way? I’d be worried about pinching the OD of the seal. |
