Default Security for vehicles.

With the high rates of vehicle thefts in this country at the moment, has anyone used an ‘OBD’ port lock? My own vehicle is in the high theft category.Usually always put my keys in a ‘Faraday bag’ to prevent scanning of the keys from outside the home.

What about a dummy OBD with power and ground, maybe a K-line (can’t do too much harm with that) but no others actually connected?

Can't say I blame you, only yesterday I was waiting in the car near a Kmart.
Observing a guy riding a BMX around checking out Commodores parked there.

Took his picture due to his behaviour but hope I won't be needing it.

Not sure how our Falcons are getting stolen, but i bought an ebay OBD lock and it doesnt fit on either the BA or FG due to how close the plastic cover sits to it.

Port locks are a waste of money IMO.

The thieves smash the locks off, similar to club locks thieves carry around cordless grinders.

OBD port relocation is a popular theft prevention tool as the thieves are using a scan tool to delete the keys and create a new virtual key using the scan tools. Even a faraday pouch is useless as the thieves dont need to be near the keys.

If you have a VF commodore you should be relocating your horn wire also, as the horn wire runs along the passenger side front guard, thieves cut a slit in the front guard lining cut the horn wire which disables the alarm. They also in some instances cover the head and tail light with rags to block the flashing of the indicators when a cars broken into.

This was my point. Especially when you wire in a factory appearance port to the original location that lets you plug in, power up a scan tool and (only!) read fault codes off the powertrain. So it looks like the car is either highly locked down or the comms are faulty.

If the crims are determined enough, they'll simply drag it onto a tilt tray.
an OBD port lock will just frustrate any amateurs and most likely they'll do damage instead
