Question Whats the best way to Sell your car?

It has been pointed out that the best way to see your car is by using your local paper. I dont know about the east but i know in the West advertising your car in the paper is a wast of time as you are competing with thousands of damn dealer ads written to look like private classifieds. Who has had good success with online ads like carsales or autotrader.

I have used autotrader before but i cant say results were impressive?

Interesting to see peoples thoughts on this.??

Cheers,

Rich.

Last two cars I have sold have been through EBAY. You get national coverage. Genuine buyers are usually prepared to travel. Both the cars I sold sold after the actual auction ended for more than I had as a reserve. It seems some people use the ebay adds as a guide and contact you after the auction has wound up. They dont want to get into a bidding war.

Cheers.

Try either carpoint, carsales or simply ebay.

Ebay always gets alot of lookers, and like its already been said, the genuine buyers are willing to travel.

Personally i use a combination of carsales.com and the local paper (Carsguide).

I bought 2 my cars out of the trading post (Capital City ones), but being in a regional area, my local Trading post for selling stuff covers 700km from Sydney to the Tweed and for the lack of a better word is crap.

I reckon carsales, carpoint and the trading post might be an OK bet.

When I sold my ute I had it on the forums, ebay and carsales.com.au, got no calls from any except for probably 5 calls on carsales to which i sold it through. My last ute was sold through that as well. Carsales is the cheapest of the advertising mags/papers/sites too

Default Thanks Everyone

Cheers for the advice on selling. I think Carsales seems the way to go.

It doesn't matter where you advertise your car, without doubt the best tool you can use is good quality photos of it. You can describe it with all the best cliches in the world, but a pretty picture will do it every time.

Best place for mine is on a corner with plenty of traffic and somewhere easy for people to pull up. If you've got a good price on it, whack a huge sign in the window and make sure "negotiable or ono" are clear for all to see. I've bought and sold a lot of cars in the past and about 8 out of 10 have been sold this way. In saying that, I buy online.

Tried selling my an AU3 SE ute in the Manly Daily and Trading Post and didn't get one call. I put it in Carsales.com and got alot more interest.

I find the Trading Post much too expensive these days...and it didn't get the reaction I used to get when previously selling cars in a cheaper price bracket. The price bracket for the ute was around 16k at the time.

FYI - I am now selling it again (18 months later) for about 14k and will let you know how I go with Carsales. I am also thinking of Carpoint.com as well.
