Hey all.
Kind of new to the forum being a holden driver, but i just purchased of my Grandparents a new car, to good to say no to it. EL Gli 5 speed, stock as a rock. Going to do the normal mods like intake, exhaust, throttle body (if possible) etc, but i want to know more about cams. Whats a good one to chuck in? Seen lots in the forum with Wade cams? If i need a different chip with a certain cam, thats no worries to do also. Ant ideas?

Dont waste your time with T/B, falcon one is plenty big enough Here is a list of what you can do:
Pacemaker 4480's 2.5" Single muffler exhaust K&N Panel filter Wade 1004-112 cam (112 good for manual) 3.45 LSD out of XR6/8 should see you somewhere in the vicinity of 130-140rwkw and a very low 15 1/4

dont touch the throttle body. It's big enough for 400ish bhp.

GLI 5 speed now that is a rare car to come by..
good luck with it mate, pacemaker comp extractors, XRT cat, 2 1/2" exhaust, wade or billet cam 3:45 diff, chip to make it run smooth and tuneable you will have a 14 sec car hell im doing that in a auto fairlane so a GLI with manual there would be something wrong if you didnt lol. got any pics?

sounds good guys.
Im pretty excited about putting a cam in it and seeing the difference. Comparig the 2 cars, my VS would all over it 0-100km/h times at the moment with all its current mods, but the EL does feel a lot more torquey at speed. I reckon if you lined them up at 100km/h in forth with both having a 1:1 gear ratio and same diff and flooring it, i think the EL would pull away better. It will be very interesting once i do up the EL to see how it goes agint the VS head to head. Sorry no pics at this stage, but it is green, heritage green? i think. It is a nice car to drive, power delivery is a lot different compared to a V6. It handles guite well for a stock set up, id imagine once lowered it will be awesome, an awesome cruiser. These wade cams, any idea where i can get one in Adelaide?

Wade cams you just order direct from the manufacturer. go to www.wadecams.com and pick the profile that you want. Then just either fit it yourself (not that hard) or get a mechanic to do it for you.

I reckon i could probably put it in myself too. Have to tools and most of the know how and mates that can help. Wish it was as easy to swap camss in V6's as it is with I6's!!

WELCOME.... TO THE OTHER SIDE. MOOHOOHAHAHA!!!
Seriously though, ripper of a purchase. When I got my Heritage Green EL I had been looking for manuals but didn't have the patience to wait for one. I met this guy in one of the car yards who said he'd been looking for a manual EF/L for 3 months and found one, but it was too expensive. Like UNR8D said, original manual GLi's - rare as hen's teeth. It'll be interesting to see which one you prefer after you've modded it out. |

I know i shopped a bit for my manual commy. Its going to look funny with a Ford and Holden in the driveway :evil_laug Can't wait to put them head to head once they both have similar mods, end the "who is faster than who" argument for me anyway! :voldar02:

considering similar gear boxes when you're talking manual, it deffinately makes for a better comparison.
the usual 'which is quicker' arguements relate to the auto versions, and without a doubt, the Commodore auto gets the car off the line quicker, but the bigger gaps in ratio's provide the ford a chance to catch up. Good luck with the EL!

I don't know why ford insist on such a stupid high first gear? Every ford in the E series i have driven has it, even the old mans BA could hit 100 in first if you hold it. In the vn-vy seies commos, you won't get any more than 75 out of first. So yeah explains there spirited take off.
