Hey guys,
I've noticed a few people mentioning their E-Series aren't getting warm with the onset of winter, and I thought I should ask everyone, well, how long does it take? My EF takes less than 5 mins/10km to be pretty much on 1/2, even in below 0c temperatures with the heater on full. I can understand that EA-ED I6's with a clutch fan would take longer, but even my old XF only took 5mins or so to get warm on cold mornings. Is this normal for a car with thermos, or are others taking a long time to warm up?

I tested mine yesterday, takes a good 10 mins to warm up, then a couple more to run normally (proper gear changes, no harsh revving sounds etc..) EF I6 btw..

Even with dead thermos, my car still takes a while to warm up at the moment!
Why would clutchfan-equipped cars take any longer to warm up? Wouldn't the clutchfan be "off" while the engine is still cool? If anything, it would be people with thermofans who have them hardwired so they're operating constantly that would experience slower-than-normal warmup periods. Currently, my temp gauge only gets fussy when I'm in the uni carpark (6000rpm) |

My EBII 5.0 never warms up!
the clutch fan stays off on cold days, but it takes the car almost 20 mins to even move up in the blue area and even on 20deg days, it never makes it into the normal range. I think the thermostat is stuck open and not allowing fast warm up.

about 5 mins to get into the 'normal' area.
but it stays at the bottom of the normal zone unless the weather is warmer

It doesn't matter what fans you have.
The thermostat determines the time it takes to warm up. If you have no thermostat, cold thermostat or drilled then your car will take longer to heat up.

Mine would be somewhere between 5 and 10, and it stays at the bottom end of normal.

Probably about 10 minutes for me. I certainly wouldn't mind if it was a bit quicker!

These cold mornings i have to plan to have a spair 5-10mins in the mornings to allow the car to warm up, i usually wait about 5 mins then drive, doesn't take long for it to reach middle of normal where it usually sits.

Don't go buy the gauge, my gauge read's it's at normal operating temp and there's still condensation coming out the back, so what the gauge say's is not allway's right, but we allready know this about gauges.

5 to 10 minutes sounds about right for mine but that's only just getting the needle into the bottom of the normal area...
Using dash diagnostics, a few minutes to get the reading moving up from the minimum 30 degrees.

Five minute warm up and a fifteen minute drive this morning and it only just made it in to the normal section. It's lucky to get a third of the way up atm.

I wish I could drive it at the moment :( It's heaps better than the EA (busted heater) and VS (takes half an hour to warm up) that I'm having to drive.

I normally get ready for work, turn on the car and let it idle to warm while I pack the car and put the kids in the carseats...that takes about 10-20mins and my car is all warmed up ready to go! But on these cold days it stays at the bottom of the normal range. |

That's what i do as well, just turn it on and go, doesn't generally give me greif at all... doesn't help when my temp guage doesn't work at all! :
I know with the old X-Flow Carb X-Series getting up and going is a no no, but with these it isn't much of an advantage by warming them up is it?

mine does the same thing too.... now its winter it can take about 20-30 mins to warm up (the distance from home to ballarat) and its still cold. ive had the radiator fixed and the thermostat is new and yes i tested it before it whent in... but the only thing i can think of is i run mostly on gas cos ive had mine freeze over on the highway several times when ive driven from home going to melb which is about 200ks and ive just gotten used to it
