im trying to set the base timing on my car and it is a el bottom and ef head.i am using the ea pulley's which has a notch on it but coming off the motor is a grey piece of metal that goes to a poin.is this the ignition mark or tdc?

It's the TDC mark. Don't use the notch on the EA balancer, it will be in a different place and if you line it up with the metal point the timing will be retarded.
You'll need to put a new TDC mark on the balancer. You'll have to put the motor on TDC (cylinder no.1, compression stroke), pull out No.1 plug and shine a torch in there to make sure the piston is at the top of the bore. Now draw/grind/scratch a mark onto the EA balancer inline with the metal point. Put the plug back in and set the timing so the mark is just before the metal point (about 10deg before TDC) |
