I work away from home and as such, my girlfriend uses my car while I'm away as we only own the one. Anyway since I left on Wed, I have had two calls, one on thurs and one sat, informing me that she had just hit a pole in our unit complex. Now I wasn't too mad at the first one as from what she described it is probably just damage to the front left bumper and the indicator which souldn't be too hard to fix. The second one she sideswiped another pole coming in to park and damaged the right rear guard. This one is probably not an easy fix but by this stage she was in tears and so it was a little hard to go off at her.
So I know my gf is a bad parker, although to give her some credibility, the parks are very tight, however she says she wants a smaller car. Its up to me now to come up with a solution to save the EL from being traded in on a Getz or some other sardine can they call cars now. One thought I have been thinking about is installing parking sensors. Since she also has a problem at the front as well I was wondering if anyone knows if they can be installed on the front bumper? I have seen kits with 6 sensors and thought that splitting 3 for front and 3 for back would be an easy fix. Another option is to go buy a cheap small car thus solving the problem and freeing up the EL to be taken off the road for some mods Any thoughts? |

1. Go to luna park in St. Kilda
2. Steal 1x dodgem car 3. Throw in all the essentials and convert to fuel. 4. Reveal to gf Every1 is a winner!!!! : |

the best way i can see, is get a small car, like a 1992 laser. cheap to run, park on a dime, and cheap to buy. no use forkin out money to fix the falcon, might as well spend 2500 and get a good car for her

I have suggested a scooter as I don't think she will have a problem parking with that. Actually she wasn't that phased on the idea of a scooter suprisingly but it rains too much up here to use one on a regular basis. |

I don't know about you guys but i would want a safe car if i had a missus and/or family and it's hard to look past a Falcon, most small cars are death traps with the exception of the really overpriced ones. I would rather be hitting or be hit in the Falcon rather than a Getz or similar Coke bottle capacity vehicle.

Does she have a Drivers Licence?
Did she forget to put her Glass's on? Anyway its obviously wasnt her fault - it was your cars fault. So you have to get rid of the "at fault" party, um well thats if it was your cars fault? In regards to parking sensors - if you put the on the front and/or the back thats not going to solve the problem of her side swiping poles - is only going to tell how close you are to an object directly behind or directly in front of the car. You would need some sort on sensors for the sides as well. Or you could wrap the poles in Rubber?!?

Maybe you should suggest to her about getting some sort of driver training to do with parking.
You do realise that even buying a small car that she will probably still manage to hit things.. She obviously has an issue of judging distances and such.... The only cure really is training.. practice, practice and more practice... Take the keys away and get her a scooter, rig up some sort of permanent fixture like an umbrella and let her go for it... :

Mate, scooters are the way to go up here, the rain doesnt seem to bother ppl. If I had the money, id probably end up getting one, mainly to save on the fuel bill. Then again, only driving 10 kays a day, fuel aint so bad.

mate dont waste ur money on reverse/forward parking sensors they are ****** we fit them at work (volvo) and they tell u that u are hitting something and uve still got about another 2-3 foot left they are a complete waste of time and we have customers come in the there bumpers are still wrecked and they have them. just teach her how to park or get a smaller car for her and u can have fun with urs.
cheers josh.

That sucks buddy, the only other option that could possibly solve all problems is get a new girlfriend lol, one that can drive.
But If your not going to be driving your car much, and leaving it in her hands, id suggest just buy her an alternative which is much smaller. |

I reckon the idea of wrapping something around the pole is a good one. See what you can do there maybe?

I know a bloke that had a similar problem
So he bought her a shyte box until she could drive with no mishaps he figured that it was cheaper to buy a piece of junk than to repair a late model magna all the time
