Default Help! EF Radiator cap stuck!!!

Well, as the thread says, my stupid radiator cap is stuck! I have tried brute force, but the damn thing just won't budge.

I've just bought the car, but before I bought it, it was recently fitted with a new header tank and cap, and the thing just doesn't seem to want to come off!

Any ideas anyone?

a screw driver and a bit of elbow grease will probably get it off. Maybee you might have to push it up or down then twist to get it off? Is it actually loged and stuck or its just not simply coming off?

Ive had trouble with an EA cap as they are a different thread, but an EF one? Dont they have just the old school cap, which is usually quite easy?

Get a tall screwdriver, a hammer and hammer onto the cap in the right direction and that should budge it.

Sorry, should have been a bit more clear!

It's actually turning but once it turns to where you pull it off, it just won't let you pull it off...hmmm, that doesn't sound too nice!

I guess that you are aware that a radiator cap has two release sections. The first turn to the 'stop' is to release the built up pressure in the radiator and then by pressing down on the cap again, it can be turned left to the final 'stop' where it can be removed.

The cap cannot be removed at the 1st pressure release position and maybe this is where yours is at now. Sometimes they are very hard to press down and turn at this point, especially if the cap is not quite suited to the filler neck.

Just a thought and I certainly don't mean to put you down by suggesting this.

Hey chippitydip, actually got it off the other day, but forgot that I'd posted this!

It ended up being exactly what you said, great pick up! It was getting to the first release but then wouldn't budge from there, even with absolute brute force! Ended up grabbing multi grips and got the bugger off!
