G'day guys
Thought i'd break my forum cherry by askin a potentially stupid question. I own an EA S pak and I 've been thinking about installing spotties. I am wanting the rectangle style and was going to mount them in between the larger of the two gaps in the front bumper. I was just wondering, would they be completely useless down there or would they still light up the road a fair bit? Are they hard to install, is it possible to mount them where i want them? Cheers. |

Welcome to the forums, the space in the lower front bumper is the most common place to mount them and they do still light the road up a fair bit, probably why car manufacturers put them there now.

you can never have enough light, i was thinking spoties but went fog lights with 100w globes, then 55 watt normal lights and 130w highbeam globes, works well. dont like the look of spoties but i love the amount of light they give.

Spotties work best higher up. The lower lights in newer cars are for driving and cornering (they stay on with low beam), but are not high beam things (even though they stay on). Why dont rally drivers put them low? Trucks put them as high as they can (within reason).
Lastly, squares, at least every set ive seen, including Hellas etc are crap for distance lighting. Ive got a few sets, all round and for a reason, they work the best. Hella Rallye 1000's (spread pair), a pair of Rallye 2,000s (combo set, Pencil and Spread) and pair of Narva 180mm combo. No, I only run one set on a car. One set on mine, one set is spare, the other is on my other halfs car. Each of these light up about 300-400 mts bright, and will light up reflectors and signs at upto 700-1000 mts away. Mine all sit on the top of the bumper. (Hellas are slightly better than Narvas, but not so much as to fully justify Hellas premuim on price) The square Hellas Ive seen, lucky if they light up 100mts bright, and reflectors or signs at 300mts. Dont get me started on very cheap brands. |
