Passing of Peter Warren

It is with great saddness I want to announce that Peter Warren passed away peacefully this morning. He is an an Aussie icon in the motor trade. Peter has successfully grown the business from one small yard in Liverpool, to now employing 650 people with branches in NSW and QLD spanning 11 brands.

This was of course done with the help of other family members including his sons and nephews.

In his later years he left all the day to day running of the business to his first born son Paul. Who has successfully continued to expand the business.

Sorry to hear about his passing ... all in one week with well known people.

The Peter Warren dealerships have been in the Sydney region for a long as I can remember.

Condolences to family and friends ... it would have hit all staff quite hard.

I'm not sure to be honest. But I do know he was in his 80's.

Importantly he had a fullfilling life doing what he loved. And after the deaths of Steve Irwin and Brocky it really makes you think about what's important.

Death of a salesman

PETER Warren found his passion for cars when working in a car park as a 15-year-old.

Twenty-five years later he was on his way to developing a multi-million-dollar empire and becoming one of the kings of the Sydney car sales trade.

Mr Warren died at his home on Monday, aged 79, after suffering illness in the past few years. He leaves behind a legacy of 10 Ford franchises in southwest Sydney and Queensland.

His Warwick Farm dealership, with a replica of the Harbour Bridge out the front, has become a landmark.

Chief Executive of the Motor Traders' Association James McCall yesterday remembered Mr Warren as a "very astute businessman and a decent and giving person''.

"He was one of a group of people who were the backbone of the industry in NSW,'' he said.

"He was a person who was always willing to share his skill and his knowledge with others and to help other people in the industry. His death is a great loss to us.''

Mr Warren was brought up in Belmore and left school to work as an office boy by day and parking cars by night.

However, he moved up in the world when he was offered a position managing a Liverpool petrol station that also sold cars.

In 1958, Sir Frederick Sutton, founder of Suttons Motors, lent him 1000 ($2000) to open his own business - a used car dealership in Liverpool, which he turned into a Volkswagen dealership.

Mr Warren's Ford empire started in 1966, becoming one of the first privately owned Ford dealerships in Sydney.

He was also an avid Bulldogs supporter, attending games with his grandfather as a child and racing home from weekend trips with his sons to watch his favourite team play.

On Friday nights he regularly attended the speedway with sons, Paul, Brad and Anthony.

Some years ago Mr Warren was involved in a very public separation and financial court case with his former partner, Angela Liati.

He has been a big supporter of charities including The Royal Blind Society, the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the Royal Children's Hospital and The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

He was awarded an AM for his services to the motor industry and to the community in this year's Australia Day honours list.

Mr Warren is survived by his three sons and his six grandchildren.

His funeral will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, Woollahra ay 11am today.

I have'nt seen a thread regarding the passing of Peter Warren...I may have missed it if so mods please merge.

Anyway Peter Warren a sponsor of the forum and long time Ford supporter passed away about 10 days ago...

Condolences for his family. Death is never a good thing, especially someone as Iconic as Peter Warren.
