Hey all,
Just got a 1990 laser from a family member that am having trouble starting. Can get it started sometimes but then cuts out a few minutes later. It has a kill switch which i'm thinking could be to the fuel pump if it is in fact electric. This might solve the problem. If fuel pump is mechanical then i dont know. I dont know anything about lasers or small 4's at all for that matter. What model is a 1990? This one is a carby model, did they come with EFI as well? Thanks guys, Aaron |

1990 can actually be two different models.. However the majority were KF Lasers. (Sedan type.) They were still making the KE Laser hatchbacks into 1990 but stopped 1/3 way through.
The 1990 KF Laser GL came as a 1.6L carby engine. The 1990 KF Laser Ghia had optional EFI. Though in a nutshell: If you're a carby you're mechanical, EFI you're electric.

Thanks mate,
Well if all carby models are mech then that cancels out my idea of switch to fuel pump. I can get it running perfect sounding nice for about 2 or 3 mins then it just stops. What could it be? So i know its getting fuel then either the fuel supply is stopping or theres an ignition system problem. Makes it hard to test for though when somtimes it starts fine. |

Got it sorted. The switch did it. Must be wired to fuel cut off on carby or something coz its mech fuel pump.
Its a 4 door hatch so it must be KF then? thanks for the help, Aaron |

If it's the so called 'bubble shape' then it's a KE. The KF are sedans and although some call them hatchbacks they are technically 'liftbacks'.
