Corolla is the best selling car for June.
Around 3200 Falcon and 2000 Terri sold.
Well done, Ford.
It seems that Toyota sold more vehicles than Holden and Ford together.

i expect the Corolla to sell well, still surprises how it well it does sell. Everything else in its class has proven to be a better car (even the new Corolla is beaten in comparos by cars due to be refreshed). Oh well marketing counts I guess.

perhaps the corolla being a good reliable affordable car for 30+ years has something to do with it. nah must be marketing..

Where is RATT nowdays? He usually had inside numbers from Ford before they were published.

The numbers in the GoAuto article are only estimates.

Ford are recording %$$#ing miserable sales in 2007. The whole new vehicle market is up about 10% on 2006 whereas Ford is almost down the the same number on 2006. But then that does not surprise me when you look at their passenger model vehicle offerings:

Festive
Focus
Falcon
Fairlane/LTD

And that is it. Woeful!. The LWB models are not worth mentioning, Orion Falcon is 12 to 18 months too late. BF MKII Falcon is producing the worst sales numbers in four decades regardless that it is the best Falcon model built to date. Focus and Festive are good cars hampered by Ford's poor image.

I thought 2001 was a dark year for Ford. Looks like 2007 will be worse.

Who knows aye, maybe these recent model / spec revisions might help them out. Certainly makes them even better value than what they already were.

Just a thought, but maybe Ford should be doing more to sell higher margin cars (Which I assume would be XR and Fairmont variants).

Customer service perhaps also, but the brand image of Ford is quite bad now. How many of 'your friends' looking for a new car are considering a Ford vs Toyota or Subaru etc.

I find Toyota's dominance baffling, even acknowledging their spam TV marketing. They make awful awful cars and people keep buying them.

Why?

Yeh...I wonder why they are one of the best selling brand of cars in the world...couldnt have anything to do with the fact they make reliable cars that meet the needs of the market.

Its the sheep mentality...........

One follows the other, it becomes self perpetuating after a while. Theres so many of them on the road that it becomes the natural subliminal choice for the general public when they're thinking new small car purchase.

Its also backed by the biggest car maker on the planet, there are dealers everywhere, parts and servicing are relatively affordable, resale is good and the image ain't all that bad as there are different variants of the Corolla for different age groups.

The COROLLA is a "safe" buy..............

I'll second that idea. The sheep mentality is all too pervasive in society these days. I'll stop now before I blow my stack.

Exactly. Whenever I talk about Ford products to people their eyes glaze over. Most non-Ford people wouldn't consider a Ford product when looking for a new vehicle. It is amazing that almost 25 years ago almost 1 in 3 cars sold in Australia were mde by Ford. Just goes to show how you can lose the whole market in the space of one generation by poor product planning and poor marketing. And it is not just Australia - Ford US is also in a perilous situation.

I've read some pretty stupid responses on the forum over the years but i think this one takes the cake. Subliminal choice - a big WTF?
Next you'll be suggesting that the success of Toyota is a big Government conspiracy whereby the general public are pursuaded to buy cars such as the Corolla to take market share away from GMH & Ford.

Get your head out of the sand, stop being delusional and face the reality - Toyota makes better cars that appeal to the majority of the general public, not the minority of petrol heads & motoring enthusiasts. Their cars are better engineered, better built, more reliable, don't cost a fortune to fix, have better dealer support/service etc and are hence, more desirable.

Simple as that..

TAKE A CHILL PILL DUDE and settle down...........SHEEESH

I only implied that the the COROLLA is an easy choice to make due to the fact that it sells so well and that there are so many out there !!!!!!!

I agree with all you say except the desirability comment. Toyota products have the same appeal as white goods. I don't want to drive my washing machine.

Slightly off topic, but I just heard in a news flash that Australia has sold one million cars in the past 12 months. It's been a long time coming but it's finally happened.

Not worth celebrating as 80% of those cars were fully imported. The families of the workers at Geelong, Campbellfield, Port Melbourne, Altona, Tonsley Park and Elisabeth didn't earn one cent from the bulk of the vehicles sold during that period.

Like it or not this is the truth. We may find them unappealing, but Toyota do make a very good car.

I was looking at some spy shots of the new Landcruiser yesterday, and it is far from exciting. They will sell by the bucketload though as it will be reliable, and if something actually does go wrong, the Toyota warranty will be worthwhile, unlike most other brands.

I think that with the increased spotlight on petrol prices, people also want a car that will cost them less and PERCEPTION (not necessarily fact) is that the Corolla is the best car around. Ok, it is very reliable and has a great reputation as it has been around for a long time.

But keep in mind. many private buyers do not adequately research. They say, "I want a Corolla because they're great." Read Carsguide on a Friday...that dude in that even says to consider the Mazda 3 or Focus ahead of the Corolla, but people once again know the reputation of the Corolla and for that, you cannot blame them.

Perhaps if Ford build reliable vehicles that are no worse in quality to Toyota, improve customer service (fire those that are grunts) and learn how to properly advertise, maybe we will see Ford do something.

When Orion comes out, sales will pick up again.

These theories are contradicted by the continuing success of the Territory. It's a Ford and sometimes has quality control issues but continues to sit at the top of the SUV market. Its class leading design at an affordable price level would be a strong infuence. I think the market is a bit more complex and we won't come up with a clear answer.

I wouldn't have bought a Ford until the Territory came along but through the Territory I've learnt a few things about Ford and would consider another one of their products on design grounds. What I've learnt about their dealers is the downside. I'd never buy a Toyota because of their lazy crude designs, uncomfortable to use with primary safety issues but I understand people buying them for reliability. But there are now cars on the market with better reliability histories - Mazda, Honda, Skoda, Suzuki - and they don't outsell Toyotas so people can't be that biased towards reliability. Marketing/perception? As I said, complex, with many factors holding a sway.

It's not that bad boys.....

We've got the new Mondeo to be launched in just over a month, the new focus to be realeased in the next few weeks, including a diesel version, we've also just had the XR4 released, with Focus Convertible to follow soon, plus the new marketing campaign with the XR8 ute, plus the price slashes announced early this week, not too mention another brand new car appearing between November and March

I think it's very exciting times, this is the worst it will get. Things will improve from here on in

I'd be interested to know how many of those Corollas were private sales and how many small fleet/government. They seem to be getting more popular with the small fleets these days...

Aurion is starting to get up there too from its early middling sales performance now they're actively discounting. Time will tell...
