ok so im getting new rims for my fairmont.
its an ef and its white. it will be manual in a month! woo hoo any way. im buying myself wheels for chrissy. i am leaning towards 19in mk11 typhoon rims from wheelmags. i want either black or shadow chrome because i think it looks good on white. anyone have any other opinions? if you know price aswell that would be good. pics are always helpful but i really just want opinions. cheers

You're correct xy351, 2" above the largest diameter available for that model.
EL GT's came out with 17's so you would be allowed to upgrade to 19's, although i'm not sure if thats allowed because they were a Tickford car not a Ford? Like FPV, or HSV... Why not just get 18's?

ok... to put it simply.
Your car will be un-roadworthy with the 19's on it, sure it'll look hot, but if you hit someone, or write your car off with those wheels on it your insurance company will simply say "insurance void due to un-roadworthyness" Better off going for 18's that are legal, and being covered by your insurance. Having VicRoads sign your car off just means that it is in a Roadworthy condition again, ie the infractions that caused it to un-roadworthy have been rectified. O/T does that top EF with the 18's on it have a Skyline front bar on it?

Okay no one here "OZEcruisers" are experts when it comes to the Road Traffic Act so here are some facts as listed in this thread by some one who does know:- http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=4160
PART 2 - ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 1. Wheel track variation c) Queensland Passenger vehicle - the wheel track may be increased by up to 26mm over the maximum standard wheel track as specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that particular model. This applies to most vehicle except front wheel drives. An exception to this rule applies to Volkswagen types 1-2-3 - refer to page number 7 for details. 2. Change to Wheels c) Queensland Wheels up to 26mm wider than the largest optional wheel recommend by the vehicle manufacturer for the vehicle can be fitted without the need to notify the QTA (Queensland Transport Authority) (4WD- Four wheel drive off road passenger vehicles and Volkswagen types 1-2-3 vehicle excepted) All wheels must be of the same diameter and width unless otherwise specified by the vehicle manufacturer. The replacement for (4WD) Four Wheel Drive off road passenger vehicles are generally subject to the aforementioned requirements, however with the following variations that takes into account the special construction and operation of these vehicles. The wheel rim must not exceed the manufacturer's standard minimum wheel rim width by more than 51 mm for the specific vehicle series. Where the manufacturer offers the option of a wider wheel rim, the maximum allowable width will be regarded as the width of the optional wide wheel rim, or the width of the standard wheel plus 51 mm, whichever is the greatest. The fitting of replacement alloy or steel wheels and alterations to the manufacturer's tyre, wheel rim and wheel track specification are approved for all Volkswagen types 1-2-3 vehicles subject to the general conditions outline herein with the following special conditions; The maximum wheel rim width must not exceed 177.8mm (7.00") The offset of each wheel must lie within the range of +40mm and +11 mm. Note; the majority of these vehicles were manufactured with wheels having an offset of +40mm Seriously your on the net so look up the Road Authority in your state to get the facts

Sorry mate, wheels stay with the car at this stage. As for legalities I'm really not to sure, but I figure if you don't drive like a tool then you don't attract unwanted attention.

ALTHOUGH if you are doing something illegal then it does not matter if they are 15"s........ You may attract more attention as your on your P's, I would stick with 18"s if I was you, they still look good, the tyres are cheaper, the rims are cheaper. Your asking too many questions so the wheel size is obviously worrying you, really be SAFE than SORRY!
