just put a deposit on a red 79 2L
-it has retrimmed interior -cd player, 6inch splits , sub -bob tail -simmons 15 inch rims -carby upgrades (ive only known efi cars so i have no clue but am told it was basic upgrade) -race bucket seats VERY tidy -4 speed manual -cam in very good condition , very little rust. the brakes u really need to step on to get it to stop, the owner said thats how escorts are... im not so sure ? also wondering what kind of stage cam or how agressive a cam would need to be to lump on idle, cos this thing really does lump really nicely i love it . anyways will be my daily for next month till xr6t comes my way then this thing will be turned into a hills/track car ... so brake and suspension mods are the go .. any advice is much appreciated |

Yes, compared to modern cars, the brakes on your average Escort do feel a bit spongey.
Standard carb upgrade would be a DFAV40 from a V6 Capri or a DGAS38 from a UK Capri. The later is more reliable, but arguably the earlier Weber is better for a mild pinto. I have one on my race motor. There are plenty of lumpy cams for pintos out there, but the best one isn't that lumpy on idle. Not sure what the profile is exactly, but I have an esslinger cam in mine where the power comes in really late like 3800. If you keep the speed up to it, its an absolute weapon, but it would struggle on an hillclimb I'd guess. |

anything that gets power after 3 grand i think would be awsome for track or a hill clomb to be honest,
Is there any cheap brake upgrade i can do ? |

Cheap brake upgrade. The Classic Ford Forum was a good forum once, but there are too many morons talking shiete on there now. I take everything I read on there with a grain of salt, unless I know them personally. Spannerfodder is still the best for tech advice. |
