Default Anyone from Port Macquarie, NSW?

The wife and I are planning a move interstate (from Adelaide) to Port Macquarie NSW as her family are located in Taree, Forster & Newcastle etc. May is the month we are hoping to be crunch time.
Does anyone have positive / negative feedback about this beautiful town? Job opportunities etc? We were there last week and seem happy with the choice of destination. I would love to hear people's opinions!
Thanks, Duane.

I went and visited a friend there for a few days earlier this year, seems like nice town, very touristy with plenty of things to do.

make sure you check out the Pancake shop...very nice

Port Macquarie is very nice, atleast it was the last time I was there a few years ago. Lets face it though, your moving from Adelaide so odds on anywhere will be a step-up

Port Macquarie, beautiful town, most facilities regarding health etc,not a huge retail area as the townsfolk are asset rich. The population is still fairly aged compared to somewhere like Forster. Taree is a dive. Depends on your profession as to how easy you will find work but finding it won't be easy. Check out the government employment site and check daily/weekly the number and type of jobs going. Wages are typically award only not generally above. PM me with more on your situation family/housing etc and i'll try to let you know more. Also go to the North Coast Ford Club area on here in the car clubs section and ask there as well. THUNDEROO lives in Port and a few others so they may be of some help as to jobs etc. Good luck maybe i'll see you here one day.

Ok Firstly Welcome to Port as the True Locals call it

I was born here & lived most of my life in Port & have seen many changes over the years.

It is a nice place with many Beaches, walking tracks, a park or 2 & half a dozen sporting fields.

Shopping area is good & plenty of Housing about, both rental & or to Buy.

Many retired people here & so Many Bad Drivers as a result although some not so old to be wary of as well on the road.

Climate good though a bit Hotter on average than where you come from.

Roads poor in many areas & traffic design not so good with many small Roundabouts that most do not know how to use.

House pricing medium to high for a rural area.

Employment not so good depending on what you do as many move here because of the climate etc

In Holiday time the town swells & is very busy.

As I said Welcome & hope it all falls into place for you & may see you around sometime

Thanks for the replies so far, I really do appreciate it! I have my own business here in Adelaide ( Plasma, LCD, Home Theatre Installations etc) and would like to extend that at the Port. But if that doesn't pan out, finding work in Port Macquarie is my biggest concern. Keep the comments coming!

One of my mates sold up his house in Sydney and for the same money he bought a house in Port Macquarie on a couple of acres complete with pool and a big shed already in place.
His only complaint was that he didnt do it earlier....
Both he and his wife found work nearby and say its the best thing theyve ever done...now hes trying to talk me into doing the same thing

Port is a great place IMO a quiet buslting coastal town. We nearly moved there from home (Albury) but the lack of work was turned me away, i really did/do like it the beaches are awesome. In the end we moved to Brisbane

Since you have your own business in Port Macq is the way to go,
but make sure you do your own due diligence before you go there.

Make sure that there is a supply & demand in your area that you are moving to,
sell something that everybody need and wants and use everyday.

Jobs are very hard to come by in Port Macq.

I agree with most its a beautiful place! I used to go up every year to visit my grandparents and i loved it just a great sunny place with great beaches and a general good vibe from the folk. I havent been up in quite a long time but if its still as i remember it would be a very nice place to live!

cheers chris

Level 1

You can use a hose with a Trigger thingy on it every second day, think it is between 4pm-7pm & 7am-10am though may be wrong.

It is on an odds & evens setup with house numbers.

This is to water gardens etc as you can wash your car anytime

I think port would have more consistent weather than adelaide because of the great dividing range.

Been up there every year at chrissy and sometimes a few times a year since i was born. Lots to do normally pretty good weather only complaint about the place is that there is a lack of jobs up there. i think at one point a few years back it had the highest unemployment rate in NSW. There is always housing developments going on in and around port so if your taking a business down there try and get into that market.

Cheers Zac

Adjudged by the CSIRO to have Australias best climate. Lowish summer temps ( rarely more than 30) but high humidity make it a bit uncomfortable during Jan/Feb. Winter where you have to wear long pants lasts about 3 weeks in July August. The rest is beaut. Employment can be a problem. Plenty of sports for the kids and other activities.
