Hand brake slipping

Has anyone had any dramas with there handbrake slipping ? mine has just started to fall when i touch it when im gettin into the car .
Does the seat have to come out to access the mechanism ?
Can it be fixed without replacement one ?
any help would be appreciated

You and proberly 80% of the AU communiity mate, they're a bugger of a thing. The best way is to adjust from the rear drums, can be a pain as too much will result in squealing of the shoes as you drive at low speeds, mine needs doing too.

Have you adjusted it at the handbrake at all before? The seat doesn't need to come out to adjust it. If you have, and it can't be adjusted anymore, thn you will have to adjust at the rear.

Sounds like the ratchet mechanism has worn.
You will need to replace the complete handbrake assembly.
It pays to push the button in when pulling the handbrake up to stop wearing out the notches.

you are not reading before you reply. the lever is not locking properly so this is not the usual AU handbrake drama. you will need to replace the assembly and to do that the drivers seat will have to come out but that is only 4 bolts

My bad, re read and now understand what the problem is

Pushing the button in when applying hand brake will prevent wearing of the ratchet in the future.

thanks guys yea had 2 replace handbrake assembly all done cost $50 at the wreckers
yes have to get into the habit of pushin the button in when i apply the handbrake
if i can get the keys back off the missus some time
