my speeds are as follows:

download: 5597 kb/s
upload: 400 kb/s

Currently used ADSL2+ TPG.

These are not 100% indicative of my actual speed because I have other mates in my house leaching the internet. I sync at 11Mbit, which is usually good for 1.01Mb/s

Telstra 1500k plan, not too bad considering where I live and how far from the exchange I am.

never seen that brand before. what did it set you back? The billion I have (7300G) is pretty good, but doesn't handle torrenting as much as it's slightly bigger brother the 7404G. I guess I should have spent that little bit more.

It's not bad for adsl1. Is your exchange being updated to adsl2+ anytime soon?

IIRC $80, torrents are fine, a good site gets me a 700meg AVI rip in 1.5 hours which is basically maxing out my connection.

Torrents on the billion is good, until it eventually floods the memory on the router. I can generally get around half of the maximum connection speed on torrents, which is generally limited by the amount of seeders.

7401 and 7404 are a lot better than the 7300 series.

After dealing with many different modems at work the only ones i would recommend are the Open 625 series the Open 824RLW (which is a rebadged billion 7402 at a lower price with a shorter warranty) and the billion 740x series, and of course cisco if your wanting to spend over a grand.

Billion 7300's seem okay for a cheaper modem but i would definitely stay away from the 5000 series billions.

Most modems seem to run OK on 1500k.. it's only when your getting up above 5mbit where some really fall over.

yeah, good speed there. what kind of plan you on. I'm paying 69.95 for 40Gig Peak/ 110Gig off-peak with TPG.
