Default What should Ford Australia do to celebrate the sad end of the Australian Straight Six

I was thinking of your thoughts on what Ford Australia should do with the last run of the engines before we get the V6 in 2010?

What I was thinking was that with the last batch off the production line that they should release the "King" of all performance sedans and release a special run FPV F6 that has at least 350kw and destroys any factory sedan in it's path, I don't see why it would not be possible, Ford Australia owes it to Australian motoring enthusiasts to do something like this, especially with such an important milestone the demise of the Australian built straight six that has powered Australians for so long.

I know the biggest concern would be the warranty issue, but if they can get a strong enough gear box and diff there would be no dramas, if Holden can do the W427 then Ford Australia can do a F6 Extreme. F6 owners currently can get there cars to a similar power figure with simple and cheap mods, it would not be hard for Ford to pass emissions if they did it right.

Sounds great but is never going to happen. From what I've heard all the R&D has been finished for the straight 6, so what we see for the FG is it. Some would argue that FPV have already done what you've suggested, albeit with "only" 310kw. The gap on paper with the V8s and the straight 6 is only 5kw but in the real world we all know the F6 is going to flog every local V8 ever made except for the W427, which is double the price but most certainly won't be double the car.

They should celebrate it by making it for another 20 years.

Yes i agree Ford should let the 6 go out with a big bang, but Ford will let this go quitely into the night as they will be to busy trying to sell us the "new V6". After all why would Ford want the old to be better in performance then the new one.

We should celebrate it by purchasing a new F6, in years to come way me hear it called "The last of the inline turbo Interceptors" :

A batch of hand built motors with the builder name place on the engine, like what the did with the last of the windor V8 in the AU.

Let get real here.

What ford should do (and probably will do) is take the last 500 inline sixes. Add six speed autos to all.
Bolt them into 500 special Build G6's with G6ET spec suspension, brakes and a fresh
18" wheel design.
Stuff the interior full of good gear and call them the Falcon 50th anniversary special.

I`ll have 1 of them and probably in 20 years it would be worth $150,000.00 but I`ll keep it so I can get to the shops and the Bowls Club as I`ll be 60

Is it a new v6 or is it the long time production us v6 ?
in which case I would welcome it as they are an excellent motor wih no head or sealing problems to my knowledge

haha - brings back memories of the last Fairlane going to $10k under RRP... lol... and then the last Mitsu 380 eclipsing it... lol....

how about the last inline 6 gets dropped of the engine crane, then dropped into a stock XT or G6, and then tell the customer there is nothing they can do about the engine problems as Ford don't make them anymore.... lol!

They'd never do what I'd want them to... but anyway...

To celebrate the N/A... its a 4.0 making 195kW, come on... can do alot better then that...

FPV N6-XT (N/A 6 eXTreme)

4.0 litres as always, with ~250-270kW at the fly.

FPV F6-XT (Forced 6 eXTreme)

Same idea as above, except with a proper output we all know the 4.0T 6 can easily manage... 400kW (100kW/litre )

Give them six pot front, four pot rear 355 & 330mm brembo's, R-Spec type suspension stuff for both, make them look a bit different to the rest of the range and off you go...

If only...
