Question Audio problem, crackling speakers, sound going on and off!

Hi all,

My au2 ute is having problems with the stereo sound. It has a stock ford stereo head unit in it. The problem is with the sound, most of the time now the sound is crackly, for want of a more descriptive word, and a lot of the time the sound will just go off all together. Even when the sound is not working at all there seems to be an intermittent buzzing sort of noise coming from the right speaker.

I thought at first it was a loose wire or something but now i think the right speaker is stuffing both of them up. Does anyone know if this is possible or have had similar experience?

P.S. i went to "Yarra Valley Auto Electrical" in Healesville VIC today but he didn't even want to look at the car. He wanted it all day tomorrow to have a look "in-between" other things. I think it was too hard for him.

Any help would be great.

Chances are it's speakers, the AU's came out with crappy paper cone items.
Get yourself a decent pair of speakers, remembering they are the awkward size of 5"x7".

considereing the great amount of responses, i decided to try to fix this myself. I took the door trim off the driver's side door and pulled the speaker out and disconnected it. Now there is no more problem.
Tomorrow i will go to the wreckers and get another speaker and find out if it was just the old speaker shorting out.

yeh you can put a 6 inch in there but you have to drill a hole or two in your door. i did it on my old au. if you look around you can by spacers or even 5*7 speakers but pretty hard to come but. took me less than 2 hours to do both speakers

in the metal door frame once the door trim is off, where the 5x7 sit the new holes for the 6" wont line up so u need to dril 2 or 3 new 1s.
its easy its like 4mm think aluminium, just make sure ur streight if not u will have to dril another hole haha

im pretty sure Alpine made a 5x7 range a while ago not sure if they still do tho

cheers Brad`

yes, sorry i forgot to tell you how i resolved the problem.

The problem was the right speaker, it was shorting out or something. I replaced it with another stock one i got from the wrecker and all is fine now... until it happens again haha
