Pedal Box Flex?

Hey people, was hoping you could help with what hopefully is a small problem....

I've been noticing a 'tick' sound as I release the clutch on my XR, or if the clutch and brake are both depressed it 'tick's as I release the brake. The noise is just one 'tick', and sounds like a flexing piece of plastic.

When I've looked under the dash and pushed the clutch with my hand I notice that a piece of the pedal box flexes toward the left of the car, and another piece that is bolted to a body-coloured bolt and nut flexes down towards the bottom of the car. It seems that the sound is coming from above this bolt.

My question is: do you think that perhaps my pedal box is on it's way to fracturing, or is it that perhaps whatever it is bolted to is tearing/moving away from the body of the car? The area of the firewall that the clutch cable passes through is not torn or fractured in any way, and doesn't flex at all when the clutch is depressed.

Any ideas? If anyone needs any pics I can post them tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

Nope - as you can read above the firewall is fine. And as for the pro auto stance you've been posting about of late please keep it to yourself. I chose to have a manual, you chose an auto, leave it at that.

This thread is for finding a solution to a problem, not to bash people.

Anyway, back on topic hey? Im not saying you are wrong but are you positive its not cracked or fractured?

Wow you guys are really childish arnt you..... anyways, i had the same problem with my old au ute a few years back. It was a bent pedal box, although I didnt work it out until it bent so much the clutch wouldnt go in far enough to grab any gears without much force. Is the clutch pedal sitting square with the rest of the pedals? Usually if its bent the clutch pedal will be of square to the other pedals. If its not that than I dont know

Yep that's what it sounds like to me as well.

I had the same thing happen to me as, was a bastard to get out too.

Mine used to make the same noise, I didn't have a crack or anything, until one day, luckily when i was parked going to take off, it felt like the clutch cable snapped. I ended up with an almost 3 inch crack in the firewall. If you have a bit of cash to throw around, I'd get the plate just as a safe measure anyway.

I had the same in my ute, just got a new pedal box from Ford, had it installed, all good. I check the firewall every month for cracks and so far so good.

BTW that was over two years ago that I had in changed

Even if the firewall isnt cracked, the bloody thing flexes.
While depressing the clutch pedal, take a look at the master cylinder.

If your pedal box isnt bent, id recomend bracing it.
