Default Any Info
The other week when walking back to my car after a local footy game.I walked past this Ford I had never seen or heard of before .To me it looked brand new as the back windscreen wiper was still wrapped in plastic .
So can anyone shed any light on a V6 Ford cougar it looked like sporty and appeared to have two exhaut pipes 0ne on each side.

This incarnation of the Cougar was originally built in Europe, then the US. Here in the US it was sold by ford as a Mercury Cougar, the brand the car was originally sold under in the US starting in 1968 I believe.

I expected it to do well here but Ford never put a fast engine in it, and fast looking cars without fast engines don't do well here.


I presume this is what you are talking about?




They started building them in the US in about 1999. They were designed on the "New Edge" design concept that looked promising, but as mentioned, they dropped the ball by not making any serious versions of this car.

They toyed with the idea of a Cougar Elliminator, like the performance version of the late 60's, but it never came to fruition.

They were brought out to replace the FORD Probe in 1999 which was not a big seller here in Aust (I actually wonder why with a name like that) I think there was only about 2000 Probes here and a few thousand Cougars
Both powered by a 2.5 V6
Tickford brought out the Cougar Eibach

thanks to everyone and just for the record I googled Ford Cougar first and all I could find were used car ads with no information.

And I looked for a cougar forum on here and just came up with spec's

Whenever I hear the probes I think of one stand up comedian who was talking about how cars reflect your personality and what kind of personality or what kind of person are you who gos shopping for a probe?

Then whats worse is getting tailgatted by a probe

Says a lot for the "awful" new edge styling when somebody can walk past a early 2000 model car and think its brand spankers.
