evening all
i bought a car from a person who lives a little over 2 hrs away from me. the car came with a weeks rego and an e-Safety Check certificate dated the 13th nov which failed it on a few things, namely engine mount,steering boot, trailing arm bushes and 4 tyres. the car ran out of rego today and ive fixed the problems stated on the certificate but heres the question do i have to drive 2 hrs + back to the mechanic who performed the inspection to get it checked off or can i take it any e-Safety Check certified garage? or can in just let the current cetificate expire and take it again after 42 days for a new inspection closer to home. ive searched the rta but no joy EL |

I am fairly sure you could just take it anywhere to get a new one.

You dont have to take it back to the original testing mechanic, but remember if you take it somewhere else they may find faults that the first one didnt find.

I have been told by a number of mechanics (Including the one that failed me on a relatively minor oil leak...) that you must attend the same mechanic.

seems to be a grey area but i think myself it must be checked off by the one who checked it.
a call to the RTA tomorrow should reveal all, i will post what i learn EL |

It has to be re-checked by the same mechanic, but if you want to do a new check, then any mechanic is fine.
Ive done this a few times (when the first mechanic failed the car on stupid stuff) and never had any dramas.

as an examiner, i can tell you that you definatley DON'T have to take it back to the same examiner. It just means you will have to pay for another check.

If the vehicle is taken to an inspection station other than the one that issued the original pink slip, they will re-issue their own inspection report at the normal fee. Regards RTA |

Similar experiences here. Had older cars that were failed for stupid things. Went to another inspector and you just have to pay again. I don't think you pay again to take it back to the original inspector (or you pay a reduced fee).
