Ouch kibibble..at least he probably has insurance. This is something I expect from an American hillbilly with his big pickup truck, not an Aussie ford driver.

Perhaps he was trying to do a Top Gear, amphibious ute thing.

But how is the ute facing the opposite direction to the shore? I mean, the tray should be further into the water, not the engine! |

Maybe a pic of when it first went intro the drink would help. My guess is that it has floated around a bit after going in and that's when this was taken. I could be wrong, but the article does say he was reversing at the start of it all.

It also states the initial recovery effort with the 4WD and rope made if worse.

It's probably coming out backwards because there is nowhere to easily attach a rope at the front. Darwin Awards anyone? Sorry but it's more than just bad luck if your foot hits the accelerator instead of the brake - the guy's an idiot (well totally incompetent at the least) straight up, and don't make excuses for him. |

I've witnessed some funny thing at ramps. Sometimes with a crowd, sometimes on the quiet.
Stuff like this is quite distressing for the owners, and it makes it hard to offer assistance when they're yelling and hollering..... Never seen one go front end down, that's gold if he did infact drive it down there front first, but as other have suggested, the recovery operation probably had more to do with it. Seen a new Landcruiser (at the time, turbo diesel GXL) with water in the doors. finally stopped the motor and took a damn good effort with a tractor to get it out. It had 4 tonnes of boat on the trailer though..... Bad luck it is not, human it is...... Glass houses guys, we've all done a silly thing and gone WTF..........

Nothing to do with this thead.
But heard of a story a guy put his new boat in the water. cruised off but very slow when tryed to speed up. Nobody told him that ya ment to remove boat from trailer, not trailer from car and cruise with trailer still attached to the boat. Some people more money than brains. |
