Default ANZ Branches out into the drug trade

MELBOURNE, May 14 (Reuters) - Australian police are investigating allegations of a drug-trafficking ring operating within an office of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ.AX), a newspaper and state radio reported on Friday.

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSSGE64C0MF20100513

An ANZ spokesman said the bank was cooperating with the police investigation but could not confirm the allegations. "We have been completely shocked by the situation and everyone at ANZ is incredibly disappointed by the matters the police are looking into," the spokesman told Reuters.

"We have zero tolerance for this type of behaviour and none of the staff linked to this investigation are with ANZ any longer," the spokesman added.

The Herald Sun and the Australian Broadcasting Corp said that, according to the allegations, the bank's internal email system had been used to traffick drugs.

Billion dollar profits these days isn't merely enough to keep the shareholders happy and food on the table.

Details are very sketchy at the moment and the reporter on the news seemed like a nuffty aswell. Pretty amazing that they would be silly enough to use the internal email to organise stuff though, surely its monitored in some way? Unless it was the IT department...LOL

I would assume that it would spread like a disease, once a couple know, someone else finds else and wants in etc etc, easy money until your caught.

A reflection of the company and the culture there.

They (ANZ) will try to distance themselves as much as they can.

We (the public) know better.

Makes you "wonder" on how they conduct their normal business.

You'd be surprised at the amount they waste on things that are just plain silly.

ANZ have about 3,000 employees at that particular office - be realistic, of course stuff like this is going to happen; they are probably statistically under-represented in having a drug issue in a work place.

Most of the offenders were based in the ANZ Collections Dpt. The Bank tends to use a lot of short term casual (often backpacker types) in this area.
I'm surprised it wasn't in their Credit Area - I deal with them quite often (mortgage broker) & some of the staff in that area are out of touch with reality. In fact I've often had to ask them "are you on drugs or something". Might have been close to the truth !!!

or better still a new service option at your ATM

Is there a special fee for that?
