Default engine bay dimensions

Hi,can any one verify if mk1 cortina has the same size/firewall dimensions as a mk2 escort???Also is the crossmember the same or similar?

Just asking because you can fit a 302 windsor into a mk1 cortina with very little mod to firewall and gearbox tunnel,so i was thinking is it possible to do the same engine converison to an escort and also doing the same mod???

I dont know so i am asking.cheers

I have a Mk1 corty and 6 Mk2 Escorts sitting in the yard but I don't think the firewall sizes are the same. I'll measure tomorrow. The Cortina will not fit on the Escort trailer, 2 1/2 inches (50mm) wider. We have fitted V8's in Escorts but mid mounted for racing not street. I doubt the suspension would cope with the weight unless you fit a Rover v8 much lighter and smaller. Plus I know where to get one fully rebuilt. Hm now you got me thinking.

Cheers,
Les

Ok, dimensions are;
Cortina Firewall to radiator mount. 700mm Escort 600mm.
Cortina between chassis 580mm Escort 600mm.
Cortina Bonnet to Chassis 500 Escort 480mm.
Cortina crossmember below chassis 100mm Escort 200mm.
I was going to measure the Windsor 302 in my 70 Mustang but got too dark and damn cold. I reckon the firewall would need modifying. I had bought an Escort MK2 which had been modified for a V6 but can't measure that the chaps done a runner after being paid, can't find the car.
any how I hope these measurements are some help
Cheers,
Les
