A Sydney man caught driving more than 220km/h has been remanded in custody days after his licence was reinstated for previous speeding offences. Officers on patrol clocked a Subaru WRX at 222km/h on the M4 motorway at Eastern Creek, in Sydney's west, about 12.30am (AEST) on Thursday. The posted speed limit on the stretch of road is 100km/h. They chased the vehicle and pulled it over a short time later. The 28-year-old male driver was charged with reckless driving, speeding in a dangerous manner and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. Police also suspended his licence. A search of the man's driving record revealed his licence had only been reinstated 48 hours prior to the alleged offences. He had been serving a suspension for previous speeding offences. The man was refused bail and is expected to appear in Blacktown Local Court on Thursday. |

What to say, speechless. Morons like that make life difficult for the responsible lovers of performance cars. I hope the magistrate does us all a favor and locks him up.

Sad thing is when the inevitable happens, all the mothers claim it was the fault of the police and that their son "is such a good boy".
No madam; your son is an immature fool who has scant regard for his life or the lives of others. Further, your son is further vindication of Charles Darwin's theory on evolution; only the strong survive whereas the idiots often wrap their cars around various obstacles in order to make more compost.

Also, in line with Bud Bud's comment, if there was a safety camera instead of a cop, it would of went off, sent him a fine 2 weeks down the track but he would of been fine to keep on going... More proof that only Police presence can stop these fools

If you're going to take someone's car away, thats fine. But it should be auctioned off with the proceeds going to charity/driver training/trauma centers etc. Crushing a car makes good TV for the mindless nanny-state peons out there, but the logical thing would be to make money from it, not further waste money and pollute the environment with a blue sti cube. |

If he is a habitual high speeder, then small stint in jail would be justified.
Taking a licence away and getting fine isnt much of a deterent. And yes, a speed camera fine would take 2 weeks or so to arrive, then he would no doubt contest that it wasnt him driving... etc etc etc.....

I don't condone what this bloke did, even in the slightest, having said that how many of us can truthfully say that at any point in our driving history we haven't driven one of our vehicles at it's maximum speed, therby endangering all other road users. I get the feeling im going to get a lot of bad reply's to this, but if u claim im wrong, ure either a lyer, have a bad or selective memory or just plain scared of your car.
Repeat offenders that through there own stupidity, get caught, will be delt with by the courts, maybe even jail, our panel beater just got 3 months for unlicenced and dangerous driving. Do the crime do the time. As long as humans are in control of motor vehicles, this sort of thing will continue to happen.

In answer to your question, if I am the only one here who hasn't, then I will stand r@@*7^* Maybe you are comfortable "not condoning what this bloke did", but you sound pretty comfortable justifying what he did .Sheesh!!! Ps This does not make me a liar!!

Why jail him? Us taxpayers will be paying for his stupidity.
Send the moron out to a bad accident and let him clean the mess up. Then he MIGHT get the message.

His excuse was "he wanted to see what the car could do". While the car may be capable of doing that speed, not many drivers are. There is occasionaly wildlife out that way, imagine hitting a fox or something at that speed?
Sadly he wont go to jail, there isnt enough room. |

I will readily admit to doing something like this in my youth I was both stupid and lucky .lucky not to have killed myself or someone else and lucky I didn't get caught. If I had been caught I would have deserved the penalty even if it was gaol ( not jail this is Australia not the USA) .This idiot is even stupider than I was he just got back on the road after loosing his licence for speeding and does it again. some fools just never learn. his car should not be crushed as there is no point destroying something of value impounding and selling would have the same impact on this moron. a further penalty could be for him to be restricted to a car with a limited power to weight ratio ( like a ford laser or even worse a suzuki mighty boy) either for an extended time frame or for life no V8s no turbos no powerful 6s

The High powered Merc did 148mph - 241kmph The TVR Tuscan S managed not to trigger the camera at 170mph - 277kmph. So there is a 30kmph window there of uncertainty. So no doubt it would of got 'im!

I love the NZ motorway patrol show. Over there the police would have said something like "that's a 30 day loss of license and a $100 fine"
