I know this is an eBay link but I thought it warranted it's own thread for discussion.
I really feel sorry for this guy, having been through a 4 month wait myself, I don't know how distraught I would be after this happened to me. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Damaged-1...item3cbb026da4 The lesson to be learned here is if possible check your shipper's track record and history of incidents if possible and be triple sure it's insured on the boat.

Ouch, they hardly left a panel straight. I am guessing it was not secured well and shifted on some rough seas.

Did they drop the container? I'd be shattered!
No transit insurance, I guess?

no container there.. looks like they were driven onto that ship and were not secured to the floor properly during some rough seas. You would be devastated! There were a few nice cars affected at the same time by the looks of things.

I'd be shattered as well. At least he's got the name of the company "up in lights" for everyone to see. So hopefully this company goes belly up a a result. Mongrels

On one hand i feel sorry for him but on the other, who knows what happened? Could of been secured properly and broke a strap in heavy seas... Thats what insurance is for though?

It doesn't say it wasn't insured, doesn't say it was. But when you have had a dream for so long and that is presented to you then I guess it's a big letdown.

After doing a short course on importing you will be stunned at the amount of times this happens. Containers get lost on a regular basis and if memory serves there is even a clause allowing the ship to jettison containers should the ship be at risk of sinking.
I have been on a few long and short term ocean crossings and have slipped into the vehicle deck when bored. Nothing was bolted down on both occasions if memory serves. Bugger.... that would be painful to see. |

Thats horrible! I'd hate to be the owner, I hope his insurance pays out! Looks like it would be a great project too. If its condition mechanically is as good as the body looked then finding a new shell and transferring the panels over would be easy and cheap compared to buying another!

Either way, thats what insurence is for, not much you can do about it, and somehow I doubt the The Company would have meant it to occur, stuff happens. |

Looks like a roll on roll off transporter.
I was advised never to ship my cars roll on roll off for a number of reasons. 1/ The young dock hands drive them onto the ship and sometimes give them a good thashing on the dock side and damage them. 2/ They are not properly secured on the deck and the cars are crammed in. Hard to say what happened on this occasion. I've shipped my XC's back and forth a few times with no real issues but every time in a 20' or 40' container and the cars secured. Wayne |

yeah my uncle imports corvettes from the states to nz and hes always said never go roro, an be prepared to lose the lot. insurance is well worth the coin.
when he forst started he bought a few in roro, and each car either sustained damage, or parts were stolen. |

WOW how does that even happen???
Even if he has no insurance that's clear negligence, must be something he can do. That's completely unreasonable.

Most transport companies use a phrase similar to 'whilst all care is taken, we are not a common carrier, blah blah blah' and as Yellow Festiva mentioned, they have clauses to allow them to throw containers over the side if they need to. High sea or not, it does look as though his wasn't the only one damaged, indicating perhaps someone didn't 'tighten' enough...
I really feel for this bloke, and I don't even like the Trans Am...what a waste. I don't blame him for not wanting it anymore...

What's the difference having insurance or not. He bought the car in perfect condition, hoping to collect the car in the same condition a few weeks later. If it was insured, he'd be getting the car back a few months (or longer) repaired. And who's to say the repairs would be done properly too.
I feel sorry for the poor bugger. The shipping company has destroyed his dreams, so I hope they rot

I have shipped cars and always insisted on a vehicle condition report and always take plenty of pics just before the car goes into the container and also with the container number clearly shown with the car(s) in the picture. I have had companies not offer to do a vehicle condition report and if the inevitable happened where would I stand as to proving the condition it was shipped in? Unfortunately I did have a small claim to make on the GXL once and that was with full documentation, photos to prove condition and the container number in focus and they still took 6 months to settle. I hope to god this guy had a vehicle condition report otherwise he will be in for a very long (and I dare say unsuccessful) battle. Wayne Last edited by XC GXL; 16-08-2011 at 07:14 PM. |

Sounds to me it was probably insured, as the ad says he is selling to recover his shipping cost?
But if it wasn't hes a douch... |

even getting them shipped by container, it`s still a squeeze and a bit of work to get them secured in sometimes depending on the car/s and any other freight going as well, i`ve seen people at quarantine and transport depots watching their pride and joy either going into or coming out of the containers(very good idea), there`s still some risk in containers, one of the depot`s i worked out of many years ago , some of the forkys where light fingered buggers and could`nt give a bugger about the freight or the job, the same goes for some of these quarantine places, photo`s and insurance .....definatly a good things.
