Default The things you find in a car park!

Dropped my daughter at the train station today. As I was driving through the car park I saw this bloody great dog ( Bull Mastiff) trotting towards me with about two metres of nylon rope trailing behind that had clearly snapped.

I called him over and he come up to me. I grabbed hold of the rope through the window and waited for a minute half expecting to see a frantic owner running through the car park.

Nothing.

What do I do now, he's too big to get in the Corolla and I had visions of Hooch from the movie "Turner and Hooch".

So I drove off and he trotted alongside happily. Found a spare car bay, parked up and walked him home.

Rangers came and picked him up (had a tag) and took him away.
My parting words "If you don't find the owner bring him back"
He was so gentle and very well behaved. Turns out his name was Bruiser, go figure.

Awwww.... the rangers probably wont tell you if he doesnt find his owner.
Id be ringing up the pound for an update every day if you really wanted to keep him.

Dogs tend to be put down and mistakes happen!

The amount of stray dogs i see around here is pretty bad.

He looks georgous and well fed and maintained.
If he is happy to walk up to strangers and friendly then shouldnt be much of a worry.

Years ago I came across a Malamute running down the highway at night 15km out of town.... he simply jumped in my car when i opened door!
I ended up keeping him for 7yrs before he passed away.

Going by the way he was around people, his condition and the fact that he had a tag, I bet he is home with his people already.

I bet his family are happy that he has been found, I know we would be if our boy was found like that.

Looks nothing like a Bullmastiff, more life a Rhodesian Ridgeback (possibly crossed with a lab), although from the picture I can't see a ridge on the back.

Just wondering how it went, glad you caught it, to many people wouldn't and the dog could have been hit by a car or what not. Kudos jaydee...

I always try to grab a dog and read the tag or door knock the houses around if I see one out.

You did a good thing there mate. I'm a huge animal lover, so I'm happy to see there's people out there that will take the time to make sure a lost dog is recovered.

thats a ridgeback (possibly crossed with a rottie).

I have a ridge/rotti cross and it is a dead ringer (i thought mine had escaped when i saw the picture) - actually mines a bit bigger in the head and sholders.

nicest dogs ever, if they are bought up correctly. but can be adventurous if they are cooped up for a while.

Yes my first thought was a ridgey but absolutely no sign of the ridge. Even cross breeds have a bit of a ridge most times. He was registered as a Bull Mastiff, but I agree, he doesnt look like one.

The story has a happy ending, found his way home, not my home unfortunately.

That is good to hear, although when you come across an animal and "save" you can't help but make that connection an feel like you should keep it.

Like the 6 month old escaped cat that crawled up into my sisters engine bay while at work at the RSPCA, it then took a 30km ride in the engine bay at speeds up to 100kms! When my sister got home, it jumped out, and up into my engine bay! Amazing how it survived, uninjured, not one scratch or burn. When we eventually got the pretty little thing out we felt like we should keep it, but unfortunately it had to go back to the RSPCA.

That dog never looks like a Bull Mastiff, I have seen a dog registered as a Labrador, but it was in fact a stud Pit Bull, and yes the owner got in trouble when caught out lol....
