How can a car built so poorly be banned from sale in one state and sold cheaper than anything else in the remaining Australian states? Joshua Dowling would be better served dishing dirt on this shyte than trying to close Australian car manufacturing. There is something wrong with the system when in one state (Vic) the car cannot be sold yet in say NSW you can buy one very very cheaply.
Just like to say a big thank you to Cherry for dumping this garbage here and causing reputable Aussie companies that build quality cars to loose sales and face a bleak future. And you know what you can do with your cheap utes advertised every 5 mins on FTA TV..... http://finance.ninemsn.com.au/newsbu...s-cheapest-car Check the image in the link on the crash test on this POS just to the left of the story.

This car has been around for about 2 years know. This is not knew and it has always been banned from being sold in Victoria. Seen this car on a TV show 2 years ago, when it was first released in Australia.

it wasnt that long ago the the falcon only scored 3 stars acording to NCAP data. the rating takes into account precautionary devices, abs, stability control as well as impact reaction. the cheapest car isnt going to have these features, its going to score poorly when compared to a much more expensive car, irrespective of the impact damage.
There are plenty of cars with only 3 stars on the roads, some expensive trucks but agreed mostly cheap cars. I wont be buying one but the crash doesnt really look that bad compared to many I have seen. Put traction etc on the car it might make 4 stars? Last edited by jpblue1000; 08-01-2013 at 05:24 PM. |

That's a little coffin on wheels
Little cars need even more safety features at least in larger cars there is more space to slow the impact down. With the cherry your sitting right at the front of the car. Might be okay in low speed collisions but in a high speed collision it has no chance. |

Stability control??? Unless the car is top heavy and rolls over easy, why is not having stability control an issue? Theres dozens of cars on the aussie market which doesnt have stability control, not sure i follow this logic??? If the car fell apart under a minor crash etc, then yes it should be banned, but i cant see how a state can ban the sale of a car, when the laws governing the ADRs etc are Federal? The state cant ever over-rule the Federal... highly bizare

Au II Forte Is 3 stars but scored 24.2 Chery J1 is 3 stars but only scored 16.97 Substantial differnce but still both scoring an ancap of 3 Just realised that ancap of 4 is 24.5 or 0.3 more than what the falcon got. Last edited by Tysonv48; 08-01-2013 at 05:56 PM. Reason: More info |

My BFII ute I had (2006 model) .... didn't have ABS or anything ... well it has one airbag at least. No TC/EBD/DSC ... nothing .... I was the controlling factor.
I am still alive as well.

Here is why the Cherry can not be first registered in Victoria.
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/...ityControl.htm Please note: From 1 January 2011, when new vehicles are first registered in Victoria, they must be fitted with ESC. This requirement applies to all passenger cars, off-road passenger vehicles, and forward-control passenger vehicles (e.g. passenger vans). |

100's of thousands of motorised vehicles are sold in Australia each year without air bags, stablility control and would score much less than a three star rating. They are called motor cycles and motor scooters. Even if the Chery is classified as motor cycle with metal shell wrapped around it, I am sure I would much rather be in a Chery than on a motor cycle.
If someone thinks Ford is going to lose a Falcon sale because the Chery J1 has dropped $2000, then they are either saying something about their intelligence or the quality of the other car the J1 is taking the sale from. |

I doubt it the same manufacturer specs that are used to register new cars are used to re register used cars. if the cars are illegal in Victoria you would find they are technically banned from their roads and if the wanted to push the issue you wouldn't be allowed to drive them over the border at all

ADRs are called "Australian" design rules... not Victorian. This is a bug bear I have with the states making their own rules up which are more restrictive of what the federal government says. Which is something that isnt allowed.

The fact it doesn't have stability control doesn't make it automatically unsafe. A competent handling car will have higher limits before it loses control and therefore needs to rely on or even require safety aids. A poorly setup car will lose control more easily.
These cheap Chinese cars are typically (bad) copies of other models - they are followers rather than leaders in car manufacturing. The Koreans when they hit Australia were probably a bit further ahead. Chery admitted things haven't gone as well as they hoped. No surprise when you'll get a better car for the same price getting something Japanese or Korean used that is a few years old that will outperform and outlast the new Chinese car for $10k. I think a 4 year old Mazda 2 with 50,000kms for $10k would be more appealing than a new Chery J1. Some people out there think new=best. So they go out and buy the cheapest new car with a warranty. A 3 year old Chery will probably sell for $4k as it won't be very popular in the long run. Buy a 3 year old $10k used car and it will probably be worth $6k another 3 years later. Chery are going to have some very annoyed existing owners as their cars just dropped $2k overnight.

I'll tell you what, if I were forced at gunpoint to jump into either a 2006 Falcon or that little shoebox (both 3 star rated) and then drive head on at the other vehicle at 50kph or whatever, I'd be in the Falcon thanks very much. The driver of the Chery would be wearing a 4 litre inline 6 as necklace.....

Consider, for a moment you are dawdling along at 75km in an 80km speed limited roadway, your are driving your ANCAP 5 star designated Beemer and you are hit head on by a W900 Kenworth doing 70km in the other direction, the Kennie has 22tonne on the back. The Kennie has never been ANCAP tested and is old enough not have ever been if they ever tested trucks... Forget for a moment who crossed the center-line of the roadway. Consider the occupants of the Beemer, 3 of whom are under 16old........ Now tell me and everyone else just how good ANCAP is..... or insert another 5 Star Car a Merc, or........a Jag or .. a Rolls. As a guide ANCAP is only good for one thing... and one thing only, its a guide for manufacturers only and Govt and of no value to anyone else at all.
