Interesting whats peoples thoughts.
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/n...-1226629539865 IT has been one of the best-kept secrets in Australian automotive history. But today News Limited can exclusively lay bare classified information on what will be the fastest and most powerful car Australia has ever produced, and likely ever will produce, the new Holden Special Vehicles GTS. Its supercharged V8 also has more power than the fastest European sedans on sale in Australia today. Only the next Mercedes E63, which goes on sale locally later this year, will match it. Priced close to $100,000, the new HSV GTS will cost almost three times as much as a regular Holden Commodore, but less than half the price of its European rivals. It is due on sale in August. The new HSV GTS has 575 horsepower, only 25hp less than a V8 Supercar racing machine. Performance times are yet to be announced, but the new HSV GTS is said to accelerate quicker than most Porsches, reaching 0 to 100km/h in "comfortably less" than 4.5 seconds, which also happens to be the unofficial time for the latest supercharged Ford Falcon GT. Holden HSV Its top speed would in theory eclipse 300km/h (matching its European rivals) except it has been capped at 250km/h to comply with General Motors' global policy. However, the limit will still allow enthusiast drivers to explore its potential on a race track, where many of these new HSVs are expected to spend their weekends. Given the likely switch to locally-made four-cylinder economy cars in the future, the new HSV GTS is poised to become a collector's item; a fitting exclamation point for a manufacturing industry on the brink. As with most HSVs built over the past 25 years, the new GTS is built to a partially-complete form alongside regular Commodore models on the Holden production line at Elizabeth, north of Adelaide. It is then transported to HSV's final assembly area in Clayton, near Melbourne, where the performance brakes, tyres, suspension and unique bodywork is fitted. The 6.2-litre supercharged V8, borrowed from a race-bred Chevrolet Camaro, is fitted on the production line in Adelaide. HSV's previous horsepower hero, the W427 built in 2008 and 2009, had its engine fitted at its Clayton facility. This makes it the most powerful engine to ever go down a Holden production line. The new HSV GTS has Porsche-inspired "torque vectoring" technology to help it stay glued to the road. The suspension is the same type used by Ferrari, responding to changes in road conditions in milliseconds. It also has the biggest brakes ever fitted to an Australian-made car, and tyres initially developed for Mercedes-Benz. The new HSV GTS was so secret that only an inner-circle of senior Holden executives were allowed in the planning meetings over the past four years. Early HSV prototypes were assembled by hand so they didn't go along the regular Holden production line, to ensure the secret would not get out. HSV GTS Price: $95,000 plus on-roads (approx) Engine: Supercharged 6.2-litre V8 Power: 430kW and 740Nm 0 to 100km/h: Less than 4.5 seconds |

I guess we'll find out soon enough.
Power isn't everything either, I want to see how they put it to the ground and how it handles around a track or will it get its **** handed to it by something with half the power?

it does say "artist Steve Short's impression of the 2013 HSV Source: Supplied" .
but i don`t like the daggy grille treatment either, but i could probably live with it for that spec . So is this going to be a full on model or just a limited special ? |

I don't think it looks too bad... Change those f'n grilles though!
I think "comfortably under 4.5" is meant as a back hander to the ford gt's, meaning it will be quicker! |

So if the GT matches the GTS' acceleration times, what does that say about respective manufacturers power claims?

And funny how so many people are quick to jump on the 'its ugly' bandwagon based purely on an extremely poor quality artists mock up. How about waiting to see the real thing before passing judgement. Last edited by stevz; 26-04-2013 at 06:06 AM. |

I would expect it to look better than the artists impression (fugly). Congrats on HSV for making it, if they can keep it to under 100K, it will sell relatively well and will be a collectors car to hold on to. I hope FPV/Ford will do something similar to potentially send the Falcon off in an all out swan song. GT-P with GT-Rspec suspension, intercooler and more boost.

He can hardly contain himself, can he?
I reckon 430kW is a bit much for a road car; be interesting to read the reactions in the press upon release if this turns out to be the case.

Pretty awesome they have the balls to do it, still just a basic Commodore (as the GTs are just basic Falcons) but still, something to be proud of I say.
You'll make a lot of friends having one of these in storage for 30 years. I had the privilege of riding in not one but TWO genuine GTHOs a few weeks back for a wedding and let me tell you, the Gen-F is the equivalent moment to when the Phase 3 came out. This is great. |

i'm more surprised that dowling actually could still type, because his keyboard would have been fairly sticky for sure!!
have the COTF v8's been detuned a little? pretty sure they were up around 650hp these days. just like the w427, i can't see too many people handing over a 6 figure sum (one you add on roads) for a commodore, regardless of the spec. many will say 'kudos to holden' but when the company is in financial strife, is it really appropriate to pour money in to these types of projects? |

Wow, it's interesting reading all the "is to much power", "you don't need that much", especially when only recently Holdens couldn't keep up with our R spec; and that many of the AFF community have cars that have similar to more power than that. Credit where credit is due... Well done Holden, Ford it's your turn! You have the chance to out do Holden as we release the new FPVs late next year.

I think his bias again shows in the "this will be a collectors item" effectively encouraging people to order one now. Throw in Ferrari suspension and Porshce Torque vectoring I'm suprised he left out DeLorean Flux Capacitors.
Being that most V8 supercars are actually around 650 hp, 575 would be 75 hp short. That said 575 (or430) is a big number. And VE's were reasonably good at launching. So a low 0~100 should be expected. Ford, its time to up grade the FPVs RSpec underpinnngs, add the intercooler and tune, and release the 351. It could be quicker for 25k less.

please explain? did my opinion differ from yours? sorry.
i don't believe i actually made any comments regarding the actual project holden have undertaken. i just questioned whether or not it was appropriate. you obviously feel it is. you obviously are not one of the 400 that have just been made redundant. |

Man you guys are funny -
"Its Ugly" - it is an artists impression not the real thing..... "Comfortably less" has already been covered. Good on HSV for keeping the fire burning - this sort of thing is the only way we will ever see an intercooled Miami
