Isn't it part of Ford culture to stand on their own 2 feet and take as little of government money as possible.
Look at what happened at the peak of the GFC when Chrysler and GM took bailout money from the US government.

Interesting that Holden and Ford have basically the same number of factory workers (1750 and 1700). I thought Holden made almost two to three times as many cars?

Ford doesn't have anywhere near that many factory workers.

Victorian premier Ted Baillieu says Ford will offer the 403 Geelong and 1,068 Broadmeadows workers the opportunity to take voluntary redundancies. An equal number of jobs will reportedly be terminated from both plants.

No one has stopped Ford from applying for funding, they have chosen not to.

Really? Two things happened. Ford realised they were in the crap sooner and secondly were fortunate to have found a CEO who was actually very good. Actually looking to restructure their business before the GFC was on in earnest helped Ford too.

If they hadn't pulled off both, then they would have been lined up right next to the two other guys.

Interesting to note that Holden now have their end of year sale on, and some of the locally made cars that are being offered come with the following note:

Max. sale price for MY12.5 Commodore SV6 manual petrol sedan, offer available with new vehicles sold between 20/05/13 and 30/06/13

We have nearly completed 5 months of the year, and they are still trying to offload locally made cars from last year.

MY12.5 is the last update to VE...MY13 = VF Commodore.
Holden has basically nothing left to sell except SV6 in Sedan and Wagon,
just about everything else ran out a month ago


But contrast that to Ford who builds sweet FA outside of dealer monthly orders.
Ford might not sell that many Falcons or Territorys but there's no stockpile to speak of...

Regardless of price, making too many Falcons or Commodores is the quick road to disaster..
