Just my luck, I buy a 300 SRT8 to escape owning a pending orphan brand, (FPV) and jump out of the frying pan into the fire...or did I ? After a few minutes of sadness I got too thinking... I actually think this could be good for the future value of second hand Chrysler 300 SRT8's because they are no more but there is no question about parts supply because Chrysler 300's are continuing and so are the go fast bits under SRT as a brand being folded into Dodge. Effectivly supply of cars has been cut off permanently, (which must be good for the demand / supply side of things as scarcity increases), but unlike FPV there's absolutly no question about the long term supply of parts so I think that's actually a win ![]() The other thing is than a ZF 8 speed had been widely anticipated to be fitted to the 2015 model 300 SRT8 which would have seriouslu undermined the value of existing 5 speed auto versions like mine, (I factored this into the price when I negotiated really hard on mine) so with this no longer happenning this undermining process can't happen. Anyway regardless of the future value of Chrysler 300 SRT8's and how that plays out this is a heads up that if you have been thinking about getting one this is your last chance. There's plenty of good demonstrator stock out there at very good prices and its an exceptionally well specified bit of kit. Yes I know the Dodge Challanger SRT8 is probably coming but the styling of that is not everyone's cup of tea and if you like the unique belnd of luxury, performance and technology that is Chrysler 300 SRT8 I wouldn't dither for too long, I reckon the best examples will get hoovered up pretty quick. |

I always wondered why there seemed to be a lack of news regarding the 300 SRT8 with the 8-speed.
Seems obvious now. Affordable muscle seems to be becoming rarer!

Grasping at straws about rarity value of an SRT. A last edition GT or GTS will always outperform in this country.
Parts availability? you think the GT's base motor is any less supported than the SRT8's? Piston and rod options, bare blocks, gearbox will be just about unlimited. I am sure panels for FG's will be easier to get than any 300C's, so I am not sure why you would think this. I think you need to stick to your gadget reasons for gong the 300

They'll most likely keep building the 300 srt but likely under a different name.
Because both the 300 srt and jeep grand Cherokee srt sell in good number in the states.

Yes good advice and NO I don't think its an issue. 6.4 Hemi will still be widely available and Chrysler are still continuing with 300's.

Could never get over the yuk factor of 300C, they have aged disgracefully bad in my eyes. Challenger SRT8 though might force me to get the cheque book out!

They'll still have the Charger SRT8 so i dont think they'll bother introducing a new branding to keep competing with themselves. If they do go that way, i'd imagine they'd do it for the Grand Cherokee but even then, the Durango shares the same platform.

Scary thought in 2 -3 years time there will be no v8 / performance sedans under a 100k in australia.
Let's hope Ford send the 5.0 mustang out. |

So, the Chrysler will loose the hemi as it is seen to be competing with the charger (another very nice 4 door muscle car). Both the charger and challenger will get a supercharged version, lots of rumours about the 8 speed ZF going in as will.
Looks like the Jeep hemi will survive, as it is seen as being unique. Saw a challenger and camaro in a car park yesterday, I wish we had these cars.... Not many cars have that kind of visual presence.

The Charger is not a patch on the Challenger though. In the states seeing them all in the flesh the Charger just doesn't has the appeal, the Challenger though, and Camaro, look smokin hot. Much better looking than the Mustang in the flesh, which funnily enough actually looks best as a ragtop.

I know another Kiwi SC FPV owner who changed over yesterday, I'm sure he will share his story in due course. Here's my change-over story if anyone's interested

Its a shame though, they were great cars, subjective looks and all that but everything has subjective looks, many people hate the FG's styling. Speaking locally nothing here really competed with the 300C for what it was in its entirely. $50k for a 4 door, high powered V8 that actually has some features and gadgets, you're looking at a $100k GTS if you want something similar.

I wouldn't be too upset yet... the chrysler 300 gets its first major update this year, where i feel that u will see the 8speed appear in the 6.4litre 300... i dont think they will kill it off til the major refresh in 2018 of the 3 cars (charger, challenger and 300)
Also u may need to take notice that the new challanger does not have a "srt8" model, the top model is now called the "scat pack" so the model may proceed, just with another name attached... also i loved the charger, but the 2015 shape id F#@ked!!! (The front) Also the hell cat engine is just around the corner and its suggested it may have more power then the V10 viper...

Something doesn't sound right,
Chrysler has recently spent money on refreshed 300C for RHD markets - clearly not a large volume and I would assume there's no hurry to commit further funds with Dodge products when the 300C is probably covering the markets well enough, it could hang around for another 2-3 years before there's a change. Fiat Chrysler has also indicated that Grand Cherokee SRT is staying... |
