Probably had a patrol car waiting down the road to pull people over (not that I know the roads in Adelaide).

Maybe he was an avid Ford fan who would rather ride a quadbike than drive a Commodore. I know I would

Might be a blitz on at that part of town at the moment.
Bloke I work with said his wife watched a plod lurking on foot at brighton rd/jetty road lights watching drivers stopped at the intersection. Plenty of drivers got a tap on the window from plod & directed offendors to park around corner. The offendors were then fined for used their mobile fones.

Thanks for the warning. I frequent that area myself.

If there is bushland nearby they may be targeting speeding and unregistered off road bikes. Seen this in WA some years ago; chasing kids on unregistered trail bikes in bushland and adjacent cycle paths on hired quads.

Was it a 'marked' quad?

I remember about 8 years back seeing the driver of a Merc get pulled over on King William St for talking on his mobile - pulled over by a dark blue road-trail bike with dark LEDs that blended into the rest of the bike and could only be seen when lit up.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

Shire officers with cameras on quad bikes doing footpath surveys perhaps.
