Default 0-100km/h what's considered fast?

Last weekend while watching the V8s Craig Lowndes was interviewed about Warrens drive and mentioned he'd done a 4.6sec (I think that was the number) start. I was surprised and thought it would have been faster for a race car.
Caradvice rated the Fg F6 at 4.96sec! So firstly is that really the time for a V8 supercar and what do we really consider quick these days for road car other than a R35/Lambo etc?
cheers
Geoff

A good time for a v8supercar is in the high 3's.

Don't forget, a good time is dependent on so many factors.

Diff ratio, fuel load, hard/soft tyre etc.

For a factory stock sedan I reckon 4 seconds or less is on the pace.

You'll find the more expensive cars (Euros) tend to hook up better than their cheaper competition.

Any racecar other than a drag car is not built for a standstill acceleration so first gear is tall so later gears are shorter to enable good acceleration once moving.

Would also expect 600hp N/A 5 liter V8 would not have the low down torque for good acceleration from standstill.

It's all relative I guess.

If Lowndes drove you around Winton, and then Bathurst, the difference would be like the ferris wheel compared to a roller coaster.

I think the GTS has been tested at 4.18. XR8 around 4.4. Most mags test with 2 in the car and half a tank so you can usually easily better mag times. Sub 4sec is seriously quick for a road car. Ive done a 4.5 in my SRT8

from what i have read falcons commodores are still above 5 seconds but what gets me is whats it going to be like in 10 years i mean they can't improve much on 5 second 0-100.
It applies to motorbikes aswell like most bikes out there claim to do 0-100 in 2.9 seconds, how can you improve on that?
Even my slow 500 can do 5.5 seconds and it is considered slow for a motorbike.
Will be interesting to see where it leads in years to come.

ive always thought 0 to a hundred was only a small part of a performance measure, 1/4 mile and speed really tells the story imo, plenty of cars do crap 0 to 60 but do very good quarters .

Sub 4 seconds is supercar quick. I think some people lose track of that just because sports sedans are getting into that bracket.

But hard when half the times published by mags are often idea conditions and damn hard to repeat and claims about private cars are often from dubious timing methods and equally variable conditions. What a car can do every day day in day out of often substantially different. Though AWD auto or launch control can at least make for more repeatable results for average joe.

So Chookaradleys SR8 could have matched RBAs 888 last week on the grid, wow!
Any ideas what a G6ET is capable of with some work? (Yes i have one)

Real world, anything under 5 secs is quick- M3 with 4 litre v8 does not get under 5 secs.

Under 4.0 secs - real world - is supercar stuff, under 3.0 seconds is hyper supercar stuff- IMHO....

I remember when anything getting under 7 seconds was considered quick

I think it's important to consider it in relative terms. For example imo anything under 5 sec for a RWD car is fast and at least in my FG turbo it feels on the limit of grip most of the time (not that I've timed its 0-100). On the other hand, I'd expect a fast AWD vehicle to be pushing sub 4.5sec 0-100's. I couldn't imagine what 2.6 in a 911 Turbo S would feel like though!

G6ET should be able to match or marginally slower. Worked you could be going aub 4.5, getting the powet doelwn is hard in a Falcon. I had a mildly worked FG turbo and id say it was def quicker rolling start say 80-120

Someone can stopwatch it, that's with 350kw, normal road tyres, 3 baby seats and roof racks. The bingbong sound is the navman dashcam going into emergency mode because it has passed 1.5g or some crap.

The new R8 8s quoting 4.6 making it pretty lineball with an xr8 with the SRT being a tenth or 2 slower and the GTS a tenth or 2 quicker. Tgere really isnt much btw all these cars.

I thought the thread was about what is considered a fast 0-100 for a road car not what is considered average.

For a performance car a 4.5 is expected these days, 4 or less is fast, low 3’s is super and under 3 is hyper.

If your factory stock 4 door daily can get out of the blocks at around 4 or less it’s fast and if it can continue powering on than it’s Adios to most of the other players and if you got stability and top speed as well then you're probably on a winner.

Anything under 4 seconds is what I would call fast most sedans M3, AMG, FPV GT, F6, HSV GTS are in the 4.5-5 seconds bracket still quite rapid for what they are, most weigh @2T and thats a lot of weight to get moving from standstill send them to Jenny Craig and they could almost be fast.

Not all sedans but they are considered benchmarks for performance cars and are the building blocks for future releases.

RS6/RS7 – 3.7sec
C63S – 4sec
E63S – 4sec
E63S AWD – 3.6sec
A45 – 4.2sec
M4 GTS – 3.8sec
M6 Coupe & Gran Coupe – 3.9sec

Seems to be around the 4.5 second mark.

Wow, what tyres are you running? that hooked nearly like an AWD? A tuned Coyote will have difficulty catching that due to extreme loss of traction on standard tyres. Seems the ZF 6HP26 has a one-second delay shifting, as it clearly lost momentum at around 60kph (1st to 2nd). Perhaps with a DSG gearbox, the Barra turbo could do 3.5 0-100kph.

Default Re: 0-100km/h what's considered fast?

I remember when HSV used to advertise "welcome to the 5 second club" and it wasn't all that long ago really. Quite mediocre by today's standards. In the last few years, 4 seconds seems to have replaced 5 seconds as the benchmark for a brisk sedan. Some of these new German flagships going sub-4 are incredible, although I doubt you'd repeat the numbers on your average street surface, AWD or not.

And generally I think 0-100 is an outdated measure. With cars as quick as they are today, you end up splitting hairs trying to compare them over such a small window. 0-160 (100mph) is a better base for comparison. Plenty of these rigs start to run out of puff beyond 100.
