Default Private land use permit

Seems a bit of a overreach to me.

I love hearing about some of those Melbourne councils coming up with new ways to rip people off.
There's already been a huge uproar against Casey.

This Casey land use story has been around for a while now.

Sly way of increasing rates without increasing rates, unlike whats happening in North $ydney council wanting to increase the rates by 85% and northern beaches 50%.

North $ydney council so far has spent $150 million on a swimming pool they can not afford to finish on an original agreed quote by contractors of $70 million.

Don't you just love them.

Pretty sure North Sydney and Northern beaches residents can afford it.
Property values would have increased 10 fold of what most would have originally paid.

My rates will go up 100% over the next three years, and I'm not living in a multi million dollar property.

The rates are cheaper in the Northern Beaches compared to Broken Hill even after the rates increase if the figures quoted by the ABC are correct. Who is the one getting ripped off?

Whether they can afford it or not. The point is, it will set precedent for all councils to follow suit including yours once more.

$ydney really has become a asset rich cash poor society.

It not just sydney, bloke I used to work with bought a block of land on what later became the local snob hill, all his neighbours have the privacy fences & shrubbery, motorised gates, pools, flash homes, etc

His house is a couple of dongas with a roofed in section between them, the rest of it looks more like dense bushland.

He's no wealthier than his neighbours, but he's also debt free.

Values going up may make them Asset Rich...but not Cash Rich.
I would be complaining if I lived there.

Yes. look at what the actual rate is & then what they are proposing. I was quite surprised to hear that North Sydney residents have only been (on av) paying about $1k per annum in rates ??
I'm under Baulkham Hills council and pay just over $2k per annum (800m2 property at West Pennant Hiils).
It' sounds as though the North Sydney residents have been on a pretty good wicket for quite some time... and now the time to catch up has arrived.

It shows over $700 plus extras per quarter here....

Don't worry I've since cleverly changed the subject to council rates.

I'd be asking who's fault that is as well as having the tender process investigated.

Sitting on medium density land waiting to be developed then.
Paying around $700-800 per quarter.
